We just can't have a stinkin' suppressor!

those actually sound like some of the most fair (of the incredibly wide range of fair-laws around this country.

What's a bit of a stretch? I've shot Silenced Walther P22s, Ruger Mark II, Ruger 10/22 and a Sten Machine gun. The .22 can be quiet enough that all you hear is the action... or what little action it has. A .22 SubSonic, a .22 Short or .22 CB won't cycle the action. It's as quiet as a pellet gun... the .22 CB is probably as dangerous as a pellet gun too.

Miami, go search over on ARFcom, (when they are finished updating the servers), under my username. There is a post with photos and detailed explanation from 2 different people that suppressed a XD9 service.

...in reference to how quiet a suppressed .22 sub-sonic is:

Not really. I've fired a suppressed p22 indoors, with sub-sonic ammo. much quieter than those old toy cap guns (with the roll of 50 caps)...you can even hear the slide cycling over the sound of the ammo firing.
actually, it sounded a lot like an airsoft gun, fired outdoors where the sound can dissapate.
not that .22 is a good idea for defensive situations...

I was told by springfield today that the lowers are different and that if you cut down and thread a barrel from a service model it wont fit. But that was from a "Customer Service" rep and not the custom shop.
I got a call from the guy I sold my XD SC to today, he took it apart to clean it and apparently SA replaced most of the internals when it was with them to be refinished. Gun was almost new :O
hmmm -- well I'm just going to put this on the backburner for now anyway. I just got a toy back from gem-tech I need to test out.

The stretch I was referencing was the theoretical defensive situation where a suppressed 22 gives you a strategic advantage in a justified shooting based on the fact that some attacker can't zero in on your location. Seems like some very...um...unique circumstances. I was imagining a cartoon where a guy pops out from behind a chair, then ducks back in and pops out of the kitchen sink drain or something.
You're completely right about a .22 suppressed gun being quiet though. I've shot some suppressed guns, and more than my share of Aguila powder-free stuff as well. And please don't underestimate a 22 CB - they're much more dangerous than the average pellet gun.
