So I went to the range last night. First time I was able to shoot my new XD-9sc! Tons of fun.

Between my husband and I, we put about 500 rounds through three guns. We were at the range for about an hour.
So anyways, two different questions...
First, I noticed immediately with the subcompact that when I was shooting with the 16 round magazine (as opposed to the 10 round) that the space where the spacer and the magazine well meet pinches my palm. Not enough to break the skin, but enough that it was uncomfortable and is sore today. Is this something that is common? Or do I possibly have a grip problem? I know that it would be hard to come to that conclusion without actually seeing me shoot, but some suggestions or ideas would help.
Also, I noticed that my knuckle where my thumb meets my hand is all bruised today. I noticed it getting sore yesterday, but if I altered my grip so that the gun wasn't hitting the knuckle, then my accuracy immediately suffered. Is this normal? I suspect that it is because I have small hands, so the gun doesn't seat properly in the web of my hand when my finger is on the trigger.
I've taken to wearing thin leather gloves when shooting, since my hands get sweaty. They also help combat the wear-and-tear from both shooting and loading the magazines (and the cold, when I shoot outside). Are there any other things I might try to help my hands survive? I've seen some people put rubber grips or grip tape on their XDs. How much difference do these sorts of things make? Any recommendations on which to go with?
Any ideas/recommendations are greatly appreciated!
