Except where are your most common pistol engagement distances. I believe in Texas they found between 3 and 10 yards to be the most common. I agree that longer range training is necessary however the bulk of your training IMO should be at closer ranges.

If you are shooting at someone 50 yards away I hope they are shooting at you because this would be hard to get by in court. At that distance you should beatfeet out of the hazard area if possible.

There are so many senarios we could discuss, in another thread.

Good on you for just getting her to the range AntXD. That is the hardest part. practice all that tacticle stuff once she decides what pistol she wants.

I was also wondering about the reasons for having a new shooter go at a target from 25 yards (i.e., 75 feet). The three closest pistol ranges near me are all 50 FEET. The new shooters I see have a hard enough time even hitting a 2x2 foot target at 40 to 50 feet, much less 75. Heck, some of the regulars I see don't do much better.

Go grab a measuring tape and try to mark off 25 yards (75 feet). Try to find the longest line of sight distance in your house where you might have to shoot, and we can post the results. Mine is 20 yards (60 feet) and I would have to shoot through three doorways.

I've seen enough range reports to conclude that some people have trouble estimating distance, or perhaps they don't know the difference between a foot and a yard.

Also, as somebody else mentioned, a civilian would have to prove extraoridnary circumstances to stand a chance in any court after shooting someone from anywhere even close to 75 feet away.

We were shooting at an outdoor range, I just walked out and set the target up. It was more for getting the feel of shooting than anything but then she suprised me. I plan to take her to the indoor range soon, but 25 yds didn't seem to bother her she emptied 12 rounds in about the size of my hand and five of them in the bullseye.

I really don't like using this emoticon but it's the most eloquent way I can think to say it:

Wow must be the month for taking the wife shooting. My wife has shot long gun but last week took her pistol shooting for the first time. When to my buddies place where she got to fire a variety of guns. The one she liked the best, my new S&W M&P 9mm that I won. I am gonna miss it. She loved the way it feels in her hand. I pu a hogue grip on it after we got the right backstrap and she liked it even more...lol

I think we need to see how many wifes/girlfriends/significant others we can have show up at the next XD shoot. I mean, not only will we have more people shooting and that is always fun, but KOL should be back in the lower 48 and able to attend so he can see that the term "hot shooter" doesn't just mean a shooter who stood a little too close to the kerosene heater trying to stay warm between stages!!
