I think to be safe, I believe it was something like May 2006. Be advised however, that it seems some places still sell/have "old" stock. Hard to know. For example, I bought an XD40 last June, that had the May 2006 date and was melonite. I bought an XD9SC last August, only to find out that it was "made" in November 2005, hence "old" finish, which I subsequently had duracoated by ajames.

Yeah, look at the envelop in the box that has the test fire casing. it'll have a date...and you do indeed want that date to be at least May 2006 or newer to ensure you have the melonite treatment.

Get a XD45 and then you won't even have to look for the test date.

My envelope with the test fire casing that came with my XD-40SC has
31-05-2006 on it. So, I should be O.K. should'nt I?

I wish I had read this a few weeks ago. The XD I just bought is dated 3/11/06, I assume this is the old finish? Will Springfield warranty the finish if it gets too bad? A buddy of mine has an XD that is about 2 years old and the slide is almost completely wore down to bare metal.

Has anyone contacted Springfield about this?

My wife bought me a 40SC for Christmas a couple of weeks ago. It was produced in Nov 2006. Slide finish looks great, although the barrel scratches like a dickens.

Double check with the rest of the guys but I believe that the date gets reported in European form...ie dd/mm/yr. mine was reported as 30-11-06. You can also call springfield give the the serial number and they can run a check as to when it left their factory
