Range Report
Just went out and range tested it.
It fed 2 boxes of pmc 124gr fmj w/ only one hiccup. I had a rare (for me anyway) failure to extract leading to a bound round at the top of the mag. This was during a magazine where I was shooting weak hand only and popping off the round as soon as the sight picture was there. Trigger is a little heavier than I normally shoot, but not unmanageable and easily correctible if I want to do so. Besides, in a shoot/don't shoot situation, I prefer that last little bit of oomph required to make sure the shot is deliberate and not my mind getting over ruled by my adrenaline rush.
Sure Sights were wonderful. Very quick sight aquisition. I let 3 other people at the range shoot it and they all were impressed at how quickly they picked up the sights and found a sight picture. Kudos to Leibster on a good product. At 15 feet the gun was hitting POA and at 35 feet it was hitting ~ 3" low, but still well within acceptable limits for me as a combat sight. It might be my shooting too. Won't know until I let a couple people who really know how to shoot run some rounds through it. (Todd, Bob, Glen, you guys interested?) I'm nothing more than a glorified hack on the trigger. I might even drag it up to the next Pistol Gear groupshoot and let people try out these sights if there is interest.
Lastly, I decided to see if Don's new stainless rod does anything for me, so I shot 2 10 shot groups w/ the rod and 18# spring installed. One at 10 ft and one at 25 feet. 10 ft group w/ rod was about 3", 25' group was about 5 inches. Changed back to the stock recoil absorber and the groups both opened up almost 2" and recoil was more pronounced, so yah, I guess it does do something for me. I still have some minor radiusing work and general cosmetic cleanup and I may yet decide to wipe the rail off as I have no real use for it. But as of now, I am very happy w/ the gun.

no, it hasn't been coated yet. I may try to get some pics tomorrow. the front blade is gone, but the rear is still here. The left tube got fuzzed by the polishing wheel and is cloudy now and the green dot isn't sharp like it was. They are still serviceable though. If interested, pm me, we can probably work something out.

Since I've had a number of people ask me how I accomplished most of this, I figured I'd give a short writeup here...
The trigger job... the only part I will recommend you do yourself if you have the equipment is to go ahead and tap the trigger bar for a #4 or #5 machine screw and get a set screw to adjust the over travel. Beyond that, I had a hell of a time figuring out what affected what as far as function of the sear and locking block and disconnect were concerened. Leave the trigger job to the professionals.
The slide was easy. I recommend removing the sights before doing any of the work to avoid damaging them. The rough work was all done on a large vertical belt sander in the shop like this one...
I just rolled the edges, and any point on the slide that I wanted to radius, on the belt sander to get the form I generally wanted. Then I took it to the bench grinder, same double wheel bench grinder many of you have in your garage, only on one side, instead of a stone wheel I have one of these wheels mounted... http://tinyurl.com/2xtzwh
I use that wheel to polish up and debur any sharp edges and if you let it rub for a bit, you can take some more material off to countour things a little nicer. This is not my grinder, but it's set up similairly w/ a stone wheel on one side and a polishing wheel on the other...
The frame modifications were made using the same tools, but I found the debur wheel actually works fine on the plastic w/o hitting it on the belt sander. The belt sander is much more abrasive and will remove material much quicker. Final work on the frame modifications was done w/ an emory board... you know like the one's the gf/wife uses to make her claws sharp to ..... errrrr... make her nails more beautiful so you want to be seen in public with her..... Just a little rubbing on the areas you've worked on the buffing wheel and it looks about like a factory finish.
It's not rocket science, but it's also not for the weak of heart or unsteady of hand. If someone else local wants to grind theirs down, maybe I'll be able to get more pics or maybe even a short movie, but I don't intend to modify another one of mine like this. I ordered the Norrels molyresin last night and hopefully I can borrow some spray booth time from one of the local board members so I can finally put the wraps on this project.
