Local gun shop/range visit.......

Well, I have called a local range/shop this week looking for XD .45acp of any style. Nope, they don't have any. No surprise there. They have ALOT of Glocks.

So I stroll around, talking to the owner. He knows I am looking for an XD45 so he tell sme he ordered 1 and expects it in Wed. He can call me when it gets there. I already know his price is $537.00 plus tax, so not the purchase for me.

We talk about the range and membership. Indoor, 6 automated lanes. Membership is $195/ year single member. No range charges, box of free GA Arms ammo, and no waiting ever to get on range. Non-members get pulled from range and have to wait till member is done. Cool I guess.

Problem 1: Range is 30 miles away from home. Hours 9 to 6 Tues, Wed, Fri, Sat. Thurs 9-9, Sun 11-5. Ok so if all household, and car chores are done, MAYBE Sat/Sun shooting. Maybe.

I ask why he doesn't have ANY XD accessories in stock. He can get them in about a day. Means to me I don't get to "shop". I have to accept whatever price he gives if I want it. That sucks!

We talk a bit more about guns, Kel-Tec 380, few others. Talk night sights.

I tell him I don't know for sure that I am buying an XD 45 after talking to some guys about H&K, Sig, S&W M&P.......... I tell him I do want to mod whichever I get, so he tells me NOT to buy the Sig (even though he sells them). Why??? They are perfect from the factory, and it's a waste of money to buy one to modify.

Ok, so I left.

I would have done the same thing. A gun retailer should probably know better than to make such generalisations.

I have a shop/range 2.5 miles from my home. I drive 30 to go to a different range because they go to the trouble to have either a Tac match or Bowling Pin shoot every week of the month, their stalls are ventilated, they treat Ms. Neomet like she is a queen. I think its worth it to drive a little extra to reward someone who is willing to give you what you want.

Want a pistol to mod? Buy some 1911 variant. Revel in the concept of living on Rice-a-Roni and water for the rest of your life though. Modding (as I am sure you are aware) is highly addictive and 1911s will suck up money like a mistress with videotapes of you in the sack with her

have you checked on something like packing.org to make sure there isn't some other range hidden away that you just don't know about? I found one that I didn't. I won't use it becuae I have a range 2 miles away. But just a suggestion. Also, the DNR website should be able to tell you where other ranges are.

Yup. Highly recommend it. The crew out there is the best. Plus after Tac matches everyone goes out to Waffle House to harrass each other and carbo load.

Warning.... Do not rent their Sig X5. Everyone who does ends up with a heroin like desire to buy one.

I stood there for about five mins and not a person even the owner who knows me said even hello. Guess they are wanting people to beg to buy their stuff.

That happens to me sometimes too. What shop in Houston was that? Theres a shop called Jim Pruettes gun shop, very nice guys but the prices are sometimes high there. Anyway I've basically given up on local stores and either buy my guns from big chains like Gander or Academy, or just order my guns online and transfer them to an FFL.

Well I'm definitely going to consider it. I'm there enough to make it a good idea financially.
