CA. carrying question

PLease answer ASAP..

This might be a far fetched question but im off to California (from Nevada) for the weekend in a few hours, I would like to take a pistol with me. The only pistol I have without high caps is a Glock 26 (10 rounds), now... Is this a bad idea to take my pistol? Can you go over the law real quick? Like, where do I carry it in my car? do I need to have the mags seperate from the pistol? can there be bullets in the mags? Do I need a lock box for my pistol? I know the Cali laws are crazy but im not going there to targert practice or anything like that I just want to know I have a little protection with me. If you guys think its just a totally bad idea then I wont do it, but if you think it will be ok then let me know the guide lines to stay in..

Thanks, I didnt know where else to post this..

As much info as I can get in this short amount of time will be great.. Thanks agian

Try this link. Choose California and go from there. You should be able to find the answer to your question.

Asking for legal advise on an internet forum is a bad idea..

I'm not claiming these folks don't know what they are talking about, because I've learned over time they are VERY well informed, but the "XDGUY010204 on XDTalk.Com said it was OK, Judge!" defense doesn't work well.

He's probably gone, but the handgun needs to be in a locked box and the ammo has to be in a separate compartment in the vehicle.

Example; gun in locked box on the back seat and the ammo in the trunk.

Try here http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/travel.htm
Traveling with Firearms in California

HANDGUNS

California Penal Code section 12025 does not prevent a citizen of the United States over 18 years of age who is not within any of the classes excepted from firearm possession and who resides or is temporarily in California from transporting by motor vehicle any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person if the firearm is unloaded and in a locked container.

The term "locked container" means a secure container which is fully enclosed and locked by a padlock, key lock, combination lock, or similar locking device. This includes the trunk of a motor vehicle, but does not include the utility or glove compartment. For more information, refer to California Penal Code Section 12026.1.

OOps forgot to add make sure you have NO loaded magazines.
