Just purchased first handgun
I shot couple different 9mm at the range, but for the price and features... It was no brainer. Plus I shot better in XD than Glock. Maybe that's because of the grip angle that people talks about here?
XD 9mm 4" service model
was on sale for 429
good deal??

For me, the XDs are more ergonomic than the Glocks. I just like the grip better. Bottom line" Carry what you shoot best. Springfield is a fine weapon that will serve you well. May I suggest you take a "basic safety and handling" handgun course. And of course, ask questions. Welcome!
The "best" gun is the one YOU like, not anyone else. It will be a compromise of:
1. Fit - It should fit in your hand like you were born with it there.
2. Reliability - It should go BANG about 99.8% of the time you pull the trigger.
3. Accuracy - In YOUR hand. It's how well YOU shoot it.
4. Concealability - It should be comfortable enough to wear and easy enough to conceal so you won't leave it laying on the dresser at home.
5. Cost - You don't want to scrimp on your "life protector" weapon, but you probably don't need a $1,000 Kimber, either.
6. Enjoyment - The caliber and gun should be fun to shoot. If it isn't, you won't practice with it like you should.

Congrats on your purchase, you'll love the XD-9. I had one but sold it to a friend and then bought it's big brother the XD-40. I really enjoyed shooting my XD-9!

Congrats, I also went through this earlier this year and I'm loving my XD-9 service. Iv got about 1000 rounds into her and she's never had a hiccup (except for the slide not locking back after firing the last round, but my grip is to blame, my dumb thumb sits on the slide release)
Have fun and take good care of her and she will provide you with fun and protection.

That's because you STILL haven't completed your initiation responsibilities!
BTW the KY and eggbeater are now ready to go, wear the ceremonial robes provided and be at the clubhouse at the time agreed upon and you'll be done.

Congrats on the XD Service! My first XD was the Service in .40 and it has been a great pistol. Just a warning-you may get a craving for an XD subcompact or an XDS!

Congrats. I recently purchased my first handgun and it was a tossup between the Ruger SR9C and the XD. The Ruger was little less costly and I just think it's a dead sexy gun. The XD9 will be my next one though!
