XDM 3.8 need help please
Ok, please correct me if Im wrong but I have done steel plate competitive shooting with friends for fun using a ( Xd 4" )
But I was wondering if I can use the xdm 3.8 full grip 9mm for Competitve steel plate shooting? I know that the 4.5 and 5.25 are good for that but this isnt want I want to use and its not what im asking.
All my friends are saying that the sights are too close and shooting targets farther away would be harder. and its a waste of $. want to know if I could use it? or if anyone has ever done it before?
is there really much of a difference from 3.8 to 4"

You certainly could, although guys with a longer sight radius will definitely have an advantage at longer distances, all other things being equal.

About 2/10's of an inch, or less than 1/4". I would say no. In which I do find odd since they are using a metric measurement to express an American standard measurement.
Oh.... BTW, welcome to the Forum!

No, no problem with using the 3.8. Wife has one and does great with it.

From 3.8-4, I would say no but 3.8-5, you bet. Big difference between the 3.8 and 5 in barrel. So the longer barrel would be ideal for competition. But you want to know if the 3.8 or 4 would be ok for competition, I don't see why not, you just have to be the better shot because the longer barrel would be ideal. I would go with what ever feels better in our hand.

No. You probably don't even lose any sight radius. The XDM rear sight is at the extreme rear of the slide. The XD sight is not.

Correct, its not the length of the barrel but the distance between the sights that matters.

How far are you shooting? Both of my son's shoot smaller groups with my 3.8" XDM than they do with my 5.25" XDM. So far we've only shot out to about 20 yds or so. The groups (whole magazine of 19 rounds) were about 3 to 3.5".
