tac vs. service
at first i was convinced that i wanted the tactical XD. but now after fondling for a while i realize that the XD service points better for me. so my question is how does the service compare in accuracy to the XD.
Thanks for the input, im sure it will influence my decision

An extra inch of barrell may or may not improve your accuracy. If you prefer the feel of the service, then get it.

They are both acurate enough. I am sort of leaning toward the service myself, but still in the evaluating phase. The service handles better overall so far, but I need more time and ammo downrange before I make my final decision. I think a lightened Tactical might be the ticket.

A longer barrel will always be more accurate than a shorter barrel, all else being equal. But that said, if 5" versus 4" makes a practical difference in your shooting, you're a helluva lot better pistol shot than I am, brudda. Which is to say, both the tactical and the service are more accurate than I am. I look forward to the day when the most important thing I can do to improve my shooting is to move up to a tactical.

I have the service model, I am very impressed with the handling of the equipment. I am glad I went service instead of tac due to the fact if I need, I can easily cary the service, that extra 1" of tac may make a difference in concealment.

I have owned the standard and sub both in 9. I recently purchase a used tactical in 9, I would not trade this barrel lenth for any other. I find I can concel the tactical as well as any pistol (for years I have carried colt govt model).

After deliberating with myself about it, I decided on the XD40 Service. I do like the Tactical, but it would just be that much harder to conceal and I really dont need that problem.
Ill probably buy a XD45 SC when it comes out.

FWIW, I hit the 100 yard gong with my 9 sc yesterday. 3rd shot. I'd say they're accurate enough, lol
I seriously had been considering a 9mm tac for a range gun, but after that I think I'll spend my money to add more "diversity" to my collection. Not sure what that'll be.
Hell, maybe a .45 tactical

I own an XD-45 Tactical, and I really love it. A 5" barrel does add some accuracy as Doctor Dawg said, but also as he said, if it makes a quite noticeable difference, then you're a VERY good shot. Most of the time, the XD is more accurate than it's shooters. If you do see quite a significant difference, it mainly has to do with the sight radius difference. I'm not sure if you're familiar with this term, but it has to do with the distance between the front and rear sight. The longer the sight radius is, the more easily the eye can make the adjustments between the sights, like equal distance on both sides of the front post, even at the top, etc. So technically, you have to be able to keep a better sight picture on a service model than you do the tactical model, IF you want them to shoot exactly the same accuracy. They're both amazingly accurate pistols, so I'd say go with what you like. Oh, and just so you know, I conceal carry a 5" Tac. I find that the extra 1" of barrel isn't that hard to hide, the grip sizes are exactly the same. Now if you were comparing an XD-45 to a XD-40 or 9, you'll see a difference mainly because of the frame and grip size. Hope that helps
