FINALLY shot my XD-M last week

I went to my local range after owning the gun for over a month and shot 150 rds. exactly through it.

My first impressions were that the recoil was more than I expected. I could deal with it, it actually was moving my Wife quite a bit however.

The gun shot very accurate, even toying around and sending the target almost all the way to the back wall it wasn't easy to shoot close groups and I am not a super experienced shooter either.

Defintely like the gun, but I did get it for both me and my Wife for fun and for home defense.

I am not considering selling it though. It's just to much for her to handle. We also plan to get her CCL IF Md ever grows a pair since she works very late and sometimes gets out with just her and another girl.

It's a shame too because I polished the slide and the barrel and it looks like a million bucks lol.

I was going to post some pics of the targets, but I left them in my Wife's car and they got wet from boxes we had to put in her trunk lol.

Oh well... maybe I just buy a 9mm instead of the .45.

What were you guys first impressions with your first shots?

Oh it's a great gun... very comfortable for me. I can imagine the 9 is really fun to shoot.

Never shot the 45 but own the 9. I love the gun. I also live with my girlfriend and want her to be proficient with the firearm incase the need arises. She never really felt comfortable with the XDm ( grip didnt fit her small hands well and she struggled with racking the slide). After taking her around to different gun stores and letting her hold different handguns she decided on the m&p 9. We both discussed she would be more apt to practice with a gun she felt comfortable with and didnt have to fight. It was a small price to pay to have her interested in shooting and it got me the go ahead to buy another gun.

I've got the XDm in 45 and 9, and when my wife shoots she uses the 9 exclusively. It's also the gun in the safe on her side of the bed. In my thinking there's not that much difference between the 9 and 45 when it comes to recoil but I've been shooting for a looooong time. My wife says she feels the difference and doesn't like the 45, so we have the 9 for her.

I actually wind up shooting the 9 more than the 45 anyway as the ammo is so much less expensive.

Sounds like you made a good call on getting an MP 9 for your girlfriend.

" I actually fire better with my 9"

????

What does that mean? Do you shoot better with the nine, or does it "fire" better?
And please, use at least a little punctuation! No punctuation sometimes gets really confusing in some posts. Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine!

My apologies, I guess I just trolled your thread! I love both of my XDM's. The .45 is my favorite, but I love the 9mm also. My wife and 12 year old daughter also love the 9mm, but don't like the .45, so I would recommend an addition of a 9mm for the girls!

Not much money to buy another gun. If I sold my xdm I would likely get either the sig 226 with the e2 grips or a hk p30

I have not shot the 45, but have had my XDm 40 compact now for a month and have over 600 rounds down the pipe. Love it to pieces. Great gun. I don't find the recoil to be objectionable using stock ammo or my reloads. Used it for IDPA a couple of weeks ago and was able to train and shoot quickly and was pretty accurate. The only change I'm going to make is either fiber optic or night sights as I do find the stock sights to be an issue for IDPA.
