First XD/XDm - First Impressions

Newbie report! Newbie report! Newbie report!

So after lusting for the XDm for a couple of years, I squeezed the trigger and purchased the XDm 45 3.8" Bi-tone as my first last Saturday.

Went to the range immediately after giving the new pistol the requisite quick cleaning/oil/grease. The first range visit was OUTSTANDING! After about 250 rounds of handloads, not a failure or hicup of any kind. The gun felt natural in my hand. Point shooting was immediate and accurate. Mozambique Drill was dead nuts! El Presidente fired off in about 9 seconds with 100% solid hits.

Two days later hit the range again with another 250 rounds. She's purring smoooooth as silk!

Love this pistol.

Carried a Kel-Tec PF9 until now. But, this gives me choices. Gotta love choices! I'll probably choose to carry the XDm most often and carry the PF9 for the quick trips or pocket carry.

BTW, thanks to everyone for making a forum like this so valuable and informative. I (like others I assume) tend to obsess over purchase decisions and research for an extended time.

That's a nice gun, saw several at a gun show and was very tempted. I have the same in 9mm but would like one in 45 as well.

Welcome.

Thanks. Glad I did I got it. I find it carries well although twice heavier than the PF9 (27 oz unloaded vs 14 oz). I have a good 5" Springfield Armory 1911-A1 about 15 years old that I still shoot regularly too. The 3.8" barrel XDm shoots groups just as tight as the 1911.

I have a Blackhawk CQC Serpa on the way to upgrade my holster from the "Gear" holster. Plan to purchase the CrossBreed SuperTuck and an OWB leather soon.

Open carry is allowed in NH. Amongst friends and in the appropriate locations we carry "Loud and Proud".

Congrats man...the XDm 3.8, whether in 9mm or .45, is a great carry pistol. I have the compact 9 and love it. Like you said don't give up our Kel-Tec as it will still find its way into our CC.

Thanks for the post. You are making it even harder for me not to pick up one of these! I love my XDSC in 9mm, and after picking up the XDS, I really want the XDM in 45.

Congrats. I too found that my XDM Compact .45 was a surprisingly good shooter - especially with such a short barrel.
