Big decision about my XD9.
I bought my XD for $ 399 brand new. At that price i believe it to be the best value and best gun on the market. I am very pleased! Its turned out to be everything that i read it was. There are things i dont like about it. I don't like the sights or the trigger. After research and advice from XD talk I've found that these upgrades will be around $300+. That would make the total investment $700+. There in lies my dilemma. I kinda feel I'm taking away by adding on if you know what i mean. Would i be better served just purchasing another gun? Would i still feel the same about my XD at $700+?

It's an improved item at $700 that no longer has things about it you don't like. Also, upgrades can be done incrementally to reduce the sting on your wallet.
I tend to think about upgrade options in terms of utility rather than price; these are options that you would probably want sooner or later with any platform. There already may have been other expenses like a good holster that affect the total level of your current investment.
So I would ask myself, is it worth a bit less than a buck a day for a year to make these mods, that will take this gun from being one that I really like to one that I love? And the answer would most likely be yes.

It's totally worth it! You got a steal on that XD, imo. I'd just do one mod at a time. Start by sending your slide to James at www.xd-hs2000.com. He does great work, very promptly and is our resident 'smith.
And he's good people!

I second the recommendation for James. Did the sights on my XD 45, and I could not be happier. He is good at what he does, and as mentioned, he is a great guy.
PRP's drop in trigger kit is another excellent addition. I installed mine in about 20 minutes.
Sent from the tactical communication device in my pocket...

As for "stock" sights, they ALL pretty much suck! That's why a good set of regular sights or night sights are recommended for any SD pistol. Just plan on spending $75-$150 for them. That's a given.
Look at a Glock if you haven't already. I liked the rear sight better than the XD and the trigger is WAY better out of the box than the XD.
However, you will take a "hit" trading your XD for another gun. So add that into your equation also.
So, we have $110 dolla sights and a $125 drop in PRP kit that smartens up your XD trigger. That brings your investment to ....Drum roll please.....$634.
Not as bad as you thought hu??
I also highly recommend that Wonderful Wizard of XDTalk- www.XD-HS2000.com , AJames. Excellent work done down there in Alabama.

I'll give you $300 for the gun and you can put that money towards a Sig or FN or whatever you prefer

What don't you like about the stock sights? I think they are great, a clean sight picture is easy and fast!
You are correct about the trigger but you can install a trigger kit for about $100, the difference is like a different gun!

So at $700 (worst case scenario as other less expensive options exist) you have a super accurate gun with great adjustable sights and a clean, crisp, light trigger with lightning fast reset. What else are you going to buy for your $700 that's better?

For sights I added Trijicons to my SC and True Glo tritiums to my .45. The XDm came with factory Trijicons. As for the trigger...I think the XDs have some of the best triggers out there for the $$. Aftermarket trigger? You then VOID your factory warranty on your trigger system.
