Angry First Failure to Feed. XD-40 4"

So Last night my local range had an IDPA style event. Afterwhich, the RO lets me and a couple other guys unload our mags downrange. (I also had my new 870 I wanted to take for a spin through the course). Anywho, so as you might know, when you are at events like that (and this was small, 5 people, most of who I have met before), you start talking about your toys. One of the guys was looking to get a new gun and I am telling him all about how much I love my XD, and its great, never jams, can shoot any ammo from it.... bla bla bla.

So I offer him a chance to shoot this fine creation we call "XD". So what happened...

Bang, click, "SH!T". I get a very confused look on my face. he racks the slide and fires again. Bang, click, "SH!T". this time the gun is completely jammed and he calls an RO. RO quickly locks the slide back and ejects the mag. no problem.

At first I thought, "they guy is probably used to 9mm heavy gun, and is limp wristing the snappy 40" after all, my XD can't jam (springfield told me so).

Upon inspecting of the bullet, we notice it is "cut" "scrapped" upon feeding. It was indeed my XD's fault. I felt like a dumba$$. Here I am telling him how great this gun is and he takes it out and it jams not once but twice in 4 shots.

Well after a little comparison I noticed that the mag lips were bent slightly thus lowing the bullet. therefore it didn't feed right out of the mag. I am happy this is an easily corrected problem, but dissappointed at how WEAK this factory mags are. I have only had my gun since april. granted my mags have seen a lot of hard flooring in their short life.

I put a new mag in and let him and another guy give it another 20 rounds, no problem.

When looking at the mags later and comparing them to the RO's XD mags, we noticed that mine sat lower. Even the non-bent one sat lower then his. Has anyone noticed that the newer springfield factory mags sit a little lower then the older ones?

Anyway, I just thought I would share my unfortunate story. All I have to say was that my wonderful XD has never jammed on me, went through the entire competition. Afterwards, When he joked with me about it being a good gun, I told him to let my times speak for the gun (which weren't too shabby, beat his sig ). I still love my XD, but it better not jam on me again, or it will get a time out in the gun safe....

So now I have to find some more cheap 40 cal. 10 rounders.

Well, I have shot about 2500 rounds through my XD40 service. Only problems I had with feeding was on my very first time out, and I think it was due to the gun being tight still, or me limp wristing. since then there hasn't been one hiccup at all. Well, last week I went to the range.. for whatever dang reason I forgot all my mags at home on the floor where I had my range bag. thankfully the range let me borrow a mag out of a rental gun. I had 5 failure to go into full battery. I didn't have my mag to compare it to, but I suspected there was something wrong with that mag. Because I have 4 mags and I have never had that problem, and I was shooting the same box of ammo I had left over from my last trip.

So, I still think my gun is flawless in it's function and I'd trust it any day. Just remember, if you use it for any competitions, get mags meant just for that so when you drop them and accidentally bend the mag lips possibly, you won't have to use them for carry purposes.

Well the fact that you had issues too makes me feel somewhat better.

I do have a mag loaded with HP's that is set aside from the rest of my mags. I only shoot that mag once or twice a month to clear out the HP's and give the spring a rest.

I just get nervous that a mag would only last 3 months. At this rate, I am going to be spending a lot of money on mag's....

I've had some feeding issues with my XD40 Service as well.

Mine fails to extract the fired round, then jams the new round up against it.

Both times I've started having problems was after over 100 rounds were fired. Cleaning the gun solved the problem.
