XD(m) sights; XD/XD(m) vs. M&P and Glock question

Good Day,

Is the sights on the XD(m) shoot at "pumpkin on a post" like the reviewer in FAQ states about the regular XD? The "pumpkin" sighting means the point of impact is not where the top of the front sight blade is but rather the middle of the bullseye when the top of the front sight blade is on the bottom of the bullseye. Is there an option for point of aim = point of impact sights or sight set-up on the newer XD(m)'s. I would want it to be like that when first purchasing it rather than bringing it to a gunsmith.

Is there anything good or bad about currently manufactured or in stock XD/XD(m)'s relative to the M&P's and Glock's I may miss when reading about them?

A XD would be my first polymer. My 1911 jammed a few times today with conservative ball ammo.

Thanks and happy shooting.

Welcome to the forums!
Per the XD owner's manual : "Springfield Armory firearms are designed to use the 6 o'clock sight picture at 25 yards. (pumpkin on a post). However, some may shoot point of aim at 25 yards depending on shooter, and ammunition. changing brand or type of ammunition may alter point of impact".

For what it's worth, I shoot my XDsc POA=POI basically at 7-25 yards! Front dot is where the hole is . My M&P is the same way. Both are great choices in firearms IMHO. Some people new to the XD "chase their sights" til they figure it out, and some fall right into the sight platform. All in the shooter IMHO.

The XDM manual stats it a bit differently:

"Shooters may use a "point of aim" sight picture at 25 yards....Springfield, Inc. firearms are regulated to shoot point of aim, point of impact." The accompanying diagram definitely shows top of blade=middle of bullseye.

I read this as NOT being "pumpkin on post" on XDMs....

Glocks have decent sights, I have had two g19's. They shoot well. For me though, the lack of good ergonomics out weights the value. Sure they are great, proven time and time again. Glocks also have a good aftermarket. I hate the grip angle and the bulkiness of them. To me, the XD/XDM series is a high value gun (meaning they sale for a reasonable price and you get alot for your money's worth) and they have a complete better design and are just as reliable. Just my op.

Follow-up

Thanks for the responses, all.

3shot and DGH: I read the manuals yesterday and it confirms what you both wrote. In the XD manual it says "6 o'clock sight picture". That was printed in 2008. In the XDm manual it says "point of aim, point of impact". The XDm manual was printed in 2011, IIRC.

I'm wondering if the XD is now made to shoot "point of aim, point of impact". If I call Springfield, I'll post what they said.

Goldtoes: I acquired the same feeling about the ergonomics when reading about the Glocks. I hope I'll come across information about how close the XD and M version, and the M&P come to Glock in terms of reliability and resilience to abuse. I guess I'll put "torture test" and the model name/type in a search engine.
