Shooting tighter groups with M&P than my XD 5 inch
Shooting tighter groups with M&P than my XD 5 inch. Why?
Hello everyone looking for some tip or help to understand why I am shooting tighter groups with my M&P 4 service model compare to my XD 5 inch tactical. Using the same 9mm ammo in each gun. When to the range with both pistols. Here is the back ground on both guns. The M&P sights were upgrade to Warner Tactical sights rear black front fiber optic. The trigger was upgrade to Apex Tactical trigger is around 4lbs now very short reset.
Now the XD Tactical. Trigger was upgrade with the PRP Ultimate Easy Fit Trigger Kit and that it. I will be installing a Dawson Precision Adjustable Rear and fiber Optic front next week. This what I have notice, my M&P trigger has a shorter reset and smoother break than my XD. The reset on my XD still seem a little long to me would like to here from other that had this same trigger kit install. My 5 inch should be more accurate than my 4 inch. Any suggestions?
And yes maybe should practice more.

Are you sure you're shooting tighter groups? What is the mean radius of the groups for each, and the standard deviation?
Even if the numbers back up your claim, the answer to your question could easily be, "Why not?" Guns are a very personal thing -- could just be the M&P suits you better.
Might also be as simple as the reset. Maybe you have serious trigger control issues, and the tighter trigger helps you hide them better. You can test this by seeing if most people who shoot both your guns shoot the M&P better as well.

Picture on the right is XD on the Left M&P. Because it is a 5 inch I was thinking I would be more accurate.

Longer barrel and sight radius maybe. I had thought the same thing with my 5" tactical.
The 4" service was a little more accurate than the 5" and the subcompact blew both of them out of the water.
Go figure....

Not too much of a difference in the two pics IMHO. Now if you were cutting ten rings with one and not the other........
No disrespect, just sayin' (IMHO) not enough difference to worry.

I find it odd that you can shoot the M&P better due to the sights. With the sights you've installed on the M&P you probably have a wider rear notch and skinnier front; allowing more left to right variation. I have a 9 Pro with DP adjustable rear and the thin front fiber optic and a XDm40 with the same set up. Both have aftermarket triggers with short reset and about 3 lb pull on the Pro and about 3.5 on the XDm40; shoot both just about the same. I can shoot my XDm45 5.25 (factory sights) better than either due to the thin rear notch. Looks like you're shooting both guns good enough for most of us.

I'm no ace shot, but I think you might have something there...
What was the distance you were shooting from?
You might want to get a little closer and tighten up on your groups.
I didn't really see much difference between the two..
