Question Crayon Coloring letters

i just bought a new XDM 40 3.8 and was wondering if using a crayon to color the letters was or is going to ruin my gun, any thought would be helpful. I seen on the internet people use a crayon or nail polish to color the lettering and it turned out good as they say but i'm kind of on the fence on this one, I love my gun and dont wanna trash it.... so please help is the crayon a good or bad idea and is there a way to get the letters professional done? thanks

It will work but gun cleaning solvents generally dissolve them.

So the crayon will not damage or do nothing harmful to my slide?

pretty sure a little colored wax won't hurt the STEEL.

check out the many, many threads in the Gunsmithing section about coloring your markings.

Lol no. Crayon is fine tons of people including me have done this to their slide.

Advice : nailpolish with acetone free nailpolish remover works better , but if you do the crayon method -- don't use a lighter it's not necessary , just go over the letters with the crayon and wipe with some gun oil / repeat until your happy.

I read a post about the nail polish and said to use a type free of something(chemical). Was I confused about the nail polish, and insted it was the polish remover?
Is there a paticular brand that is safe to use that say Wal-mart carries?

Smile

I just used the crayon on my slide with out heating it up just rubed it on and it looks good. It was easy to do just color in the lines take a card and scrape it to push the crayn in the lines and use a little gun oil to rub off the wax. it works great

Any nailpolish remover should be fine on newer model guns.

However -- I'd get acetone free just to be safe , and I used 1.99 white nail polish from CVS on my Glock -- it looks great !
