Need help Used XD40 SC shooting low&right

I just purchased my XD40sc w/Tritium Night Sights about a month ago and JUST recently got to the range. BUT I did however buy it used and the guns seems to be in excellent shape through an through….. While at the range I ran through 100rds of the Winchester white box 165gr Target rounds and my shots were landing about 1-1.5″ low and 2-3″ to the right at only 5-7yrds it wasn’t far off so at first i tried adjusting my grip, stance, & trigger finger position and pull yet had the same results…. I was able to adjust my aim an consistently put Great groupings on target… I do love this gun but it left me a little concerned simply because I had to “guesstimate” where my shots are landing and in a self defense scenario I’m held accountable for ANY missed shots!!!! I did speak to the range officer on site whom i let fire a couple shots and had the same results (for those of you who would say its just me) he did how ever mention different ammo shoots differently with different guns, which was also stated in the user Manuel…. And I know I need some more range time to get better acquainted with the gun…. Does anyone have any suggestions for Target & Deffensive ammo??? Or have/had similar issue and/or suggestions????

Also, does the Range Officer have a lot of experience shooting this platform? If he is as new to the gun as you are, the results should be the same. Also, if he is same handed as you are. If he shoots with the opposite hand as you, then you've illiminated the issue that 1LL might be alluding to. The sights may very well be off.
To take it a step further, you might want to shoot it off of a sandbag rest; or, more desirably, from a Ransom Rest.

At 5-7yds you would never tell the diff between great and awful ammo.
LASER boresight it or shoot it from a rest, until then you won't know anything.

You might be tightening your grip as you squeeze the trigger. I use to be bad about that but have managed to train it out of myself.

50% of the XDm owners on this board are shooting low and left, from what I have heard.

+1 ^^^
Unless you control the variables by doing as suggested, you will not be able to fix the problem. Standardize on ammo, distance, grip, and trigger pull shooting from a rest. Then you can focus on grip, stance, and trigger pull one at a time. It is all about practice - lots of practice - both dry fire and live fire!

Buy a cheap rail mount laser from ebay for 25 bucks and practice dry fire drills at a mark on the wall. The red dot should not move perceptibly while you dry fire. Naturally, follow all dry fire safety procedures!

Also do the empty case on the front post drill. Balance an empty case standing upright on the front sight post. Hold on target for 15 seconds (I aim at a clock), then dry fire the gun. The case shouldn't fall off. When you can do that 10 times in a row without it falling off, increase the hold time incrementally to 120 seconds.

If you get the cheap laser, combine the two drills so you can learn to hold steadily on target then manipulate the trigger without changing point of aim.

Thank you everyone!!!

Thanks everyone for your responses, I will definitely try all your suggestions ASAP to see what works or doesn't. The range officer and I are both right handed, and he said he's fired one before but said it was quite some time ago. He's also a Glock fan and doesn't like the XD's so his experience is limited... I do have a Crimson Trace Laser Grip which I used for my former XD40 Service Model, I had it installed by the gunsmith at the shop I purchased the gun from and he said he had it zeroed to 7rds an used a laser boresight. At 7yrds the laser lines up with the sights with a Point of Impact sight picture sitting right on top of the Front post. I also tried using the laser while firing and still had the same results... Before hitting the range I've extensively practiced dry firing at a target on the wall with the laser and am able to keep the laser on target, which has led me to believe either I may have a faulty barrel. But This is my first subcompact so I wasnt sure if this was a common issue.... As I said I was able to readjust my aim and consistently get good groupings... With my former Service Model I couldn't have been more happy with it which was EXTREMELY accurate but was unrealistic for concealed carry do to my size and shape.... Again thank you all for your responses and to all of you who own a XD40 subcompact please do share your experience with it and if/or not you have any similar experiences with it.....
