ammo question

Just picked up a xd 40. Haven't shot it yet. Looking to get some ammo for it. Is there a general consensus on a weight and/or brand these guns are loving? Thanks guys. -Rob

I always shoot Federal or the Winchester White Box, those have been the cheapest ammo that I could find. Typically I would buy 180 grain or 165 grain FMJ.

My dad has an XD40 Service and he says he's never had any trouble with any of the ammo he's put through it. He also claims that he's had the best accuracy with Federal ammo. He usually uses Federal Champion 180gr. FMJ @ the range (although he sometimes buys whatever's cheapest) and Federal Hi-Shok 180 gr for self defense

Ammo

I'm beginning to favor Federal for all of my guns.

I buy it because it's the cheapest local ammo. 10.97 per box of 50.

For SD, use a top shelf (expensive) line like Gold Dot or Ranger. You don't need many (hopefully!) so the actual cost is relatively low. You can get 500 round cases from SGAMMO.com at far more attractive prices than the local gun shops. I have both 165 and 180gr and really don't think there is much difference. I tend to lean to the heavier rounds to maximize penetration.

For practice, the cheapest stuff you can find from a reputable source. Absolutely NEVER buy reloaded rounds from "bubba" at the gun shows! They don't have any real liability as they are here today and gone tomorrow. I do however buy from freedommunitions.com and others online. I've run a fair amount of TULA ammo too. Some get queasy shooting iron cased rounds, but it seems to run fairly cleanly and accurately. I have seen like 1 box in 20 that the coating on the cases is contaminated with grit in the coating. Those had issues feeding, but other than that, no problems.

Mine eats anything. I practice with either cheap Wal-Mart stuff or my reloads. I carry Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel or Corbon DPX.
