Do the XDM 4.5 and the XDM 3.8 use different recoil springs? This is a discussion on Do the XDM 4.5 and the XDM 3.8 use different recoil springs? within the General SA-XD/XD(M) Talk forums, part of the XD Talk category; If they do, why? It seems strange that the same gun would use two very different mechanisms.
Does one have an advantage over the other?

Overall is the 4.5 more accurate than the 3.8? If the answer is yes i assume its because of the barrel length and sight radius rather than the recoil spring, correct?

Yes. The 3.8 uses a dual, captive spring. You can't take it apart like the larger slide guns.
I can't answer as to why.
And yes, they 4.5 is naturally a little more mechanically accurate due to the extra barrel length. But only the best pistol shooters would notice off hand.

Yes the are kind of the same gun, share the same lower frame, but I guess with the slide and barrel difference they had to revert to using the dual captive spring. I would guess the Croatia and Springfield engineers know what there doing and had reason.
The 4.5 and 5.25 do share the same recoil spring. Also keep in the mine the 9 and 40 are the same frame, but the .45 ACP frame is larger.

There is no difference in accuracy between barrel lengths.
The quality of the barrel is the deciding factor.
A longer barrel is easier to shoot accurately because of the longer sight radius not because its more accurate.

Yes, both are different for a reason - physics !. Size of slide and barrel, its weight alters inertial characteristics of the mechanism. It needs to be fine tuned, so as to have a reliable action.

i notice that the gen 4 glocks all went to a double capture recoil spring. So it makes me wonder if they did it because they find it superior in some way.
