Your advice is precisely correct, pual0101. R6pilot's comment doesn't sound right to you because you live in West Virginia and he lives in Connecticut. And dglock in Buckeye AZ lives in a state where concealed carry is legal in the state by anyone, without a permit.
ETA, by anyone who can legally carry a firearm. This excludes felons, etc.

My 3.8 has the same frame as my full size 4.5.
Just an fyi

I think Lowbar is right, the 4.5 is "considered" the fullsize, the 3.8 is the compact version of it. As others have said a 3.8 with a longer grip frame is totally stupid and pointless since the longer grip is the most difficult part to conceal and then you mine as well just have a 4.5. You can get a fullsize magextension for the 3.8c so why would they need a fullsize grip frame 3.8?

Agreed.
I think people are confusing 3.8 vs. 3.8 compact. Or perhaps they don't realize they are actually different guns?

I bought the "Full Size" 3.8 in OD Green/Stainless. I will shoot and carry this for now and in 3 weeks I am ordering the XD Sub compact as well.
Bought it today, shooting it tomorrow.

I went with the compact version of the 3.8 for carry. Get some pearce grip extensions and call it good.
Although, the stupid grip sleeves are hard to find and add to the cost of the magazines. With the standard 3.8 you don't have to worry about the sleeves.

I have the XDm 3.8 compact 9mm. The versatility of the 19 & 13 round magazines is what drew me to this weapon. IMO the 19 round mag is just to big to CC but great for home and the 13 round mag fits perfect (get the Pearce grip extensions for the 13 round mag) for CC. I carry mine strong-side using a Cross Breed holster at the 3:30 position with no issues.

I carry my 3.8 compact in the crossbreed supertuck at the 4:30 position and it is very comfortable. I have also carried it with the owb holster it comes with, and found it very concealable with a hawaiian shirt.

I'm 200lbs and amost 6' tall. I carry the 4.5" .45 XDm just fine. I wear button up shirts or semi-loose t-shirts that don't hug my sides. The CBST dropped all the way down and sitting 8 oclock to 10 oclock works just fine for this leftie.
I think the key is to make sure your shirt choice doesn't ride up when you sit down or kneel to pick something up. Some shirts are cut really short despite being 'roomy'.
