I bought COMP-Tac MTAC holsters for my Glocks and my Springfields and they are seriously the best holster you'll ever own. Comfort is off the charts in the 4 o'clock position for all day use. You'll know its there in the car, I have stiff leather seats, but I've driven 4 hours with it on and didn't have a complaint. I use the MTAC with a suit on or with jeans or cargo shorts in the summer and a t shirt.
Obviously the compact version will be easier to conceal, but you'll have little difficulty if you slap in the larger magazine.
I'm 6'2" and around 218lbs. You may have to switch your wallet to your other pocket, especially if you choose the larger barrel.

I carry a 3.8 with a black hawk OWB holster at a 3 clock position and a IWB galco king tuk at a 4 clock position. It works for me!

What are the chances of needing your gun while driving vs. having an accident while driving?
Do your own analysis; but this, along with the other answers is why mine stays holstered instead of sitting on a seat or between the seat and console.

I was told its illegal to drive with your gun on or between the seats. You're permitted to carry your weapon "on your person".

I guess comfort is all relative, it isn't "comfortable" for me to carry anything IWB, but it isn't bad either, I have actually worn my 3.8 xdm compact while working on my motorhome (to break in the Galco King tuck) initially.
I say get the compact, what benefit is there to a longer grip when you can get the extended magazines? I personally don't even notice a big difference when shooting it with the bigger mags, I love how it shoots with the standard 9 round and last time didn't even take the longer mags with me to to the range.
Of course in CA the full size mag only buys me one more round.

I would do your own research, because that does not sound right, especially if you have your CHL

This, get the 3.8 compact with the smaller grip

So many reasons NOT to unholster/reholster from place-to-place. But to each his own.
