Ok, that just might be slightly outside the bounds of reality -- just a little... But I dislike guns blowing up in my hand so I stay away from stuff that brags about being higher than the maximum allowable pressure. I really see no need for the massive blinding flash, the horrendous report, increased recoil and abuse of the gun just for a slightly higher velocity.

They're safe for +p, althoug it will cause higher wear. I'd avoid the super high pressure hotrod ammo. Standard pressure loading is fine for plinking, and although I don't use +p for defensive purposes, it is alright for that. Given the choice of +p or +p+, I'd stick with the slightly higher wear rather than go with a wild card of unknown power.
I just can't run +p in my pistol though... I paid so much for it, and it's my baby. Running +p through my pistol would feel like giving an energy drink to a newborn.

Yes, they are OK with +P. But like you, I don't really see the need. Maybe 15 years ago when bullet design was still struggling, but not so much today. The bullets are VERY well tuned to the expand dramatically and still penetrate with out having to resort to brute force.
Snicker -- energy drink to a newborn!

If it's ball, sure.
+P+ JHP in a SMG tends to give you an overdriven bullet that will blow up shallow.
IIRC, when using JHP's, 124+P is what HK recommends for MP5's...
And, to concur with the others--the XD will handle +P, and commercial +P+ loads form major mfg's with no issue. However, one needs to question if the increased recoil, muzzle blast, etc are worth the lack of improved terminal performance.

I feel like if you truly need +p+ you should have had a bigger caliber.

I agree completely! European guns tend to be made more sturdy because European ammo is hotter than US stuff, and they can usually handle the hot loads. You can't find +p+ in a lot of calibers, and there's a reason. SAAMI doesn't list data for it, and there's a reason. Some guns only recommend +p "occasionally". Why punish your weapon unnecessarily?
