Help out the new guy!

First let me start by saying hi to everyone on the forums. I'm not new to shooting handguns on the range but I am officially the new owner of a XD(M) 9mm 4.5". I have a few questions and wasn't sure where to post them all at once.

1. I'm Looking for a comfortable concealed carry holster, that will work for a bigger guy. Any suggestions?

2. Also any recommendations on night sights?

3. Lastly what's everyones opinion on duracoating a new guy? Is it going to look like crap later on in the life of the gun that's an everyday carry gun? Would I be better off leaving the gun as is?

Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

P.S.
I have taken the class and I do have my concealed carry permit. So I would like to find a good holster ASAP. Thanks again.

1. Check out Don Hume at gunnersalley.com or Tennessee Holster Company

2. Shoot the gun plain, then shop around for sights

3. I would at least break it in before duracoating, and don't send it off if its your only defensive weapon

1. CrossBreed Supertucks are great! AND they are a sponsor of these forums.

2. Plenty of information on night sights in the Forums if you search around, you'll find it.

3. The factory coating on the XD/XDm is sufficient.

Congrats on your purchase and good-on-you for exercising your 2A rights!

I carry a 4.5 XDm 40 in an oldfaithfulholster.com that was a DIY kit. Pretty simple to put together with pre-moulded Xydex (and under $40 for horsehide!). I like the gun to have more of the plastic covering it, so I cut it a fair amount less than most commercial holsters. It's simple to trim.

Welcome TMoney, to the Forum from Texas!

Take a look here at what our own resident Smith writes about night sights. Pretty much in a nutshell.

I just bought a Blackhawk Serpa CQC off eBay this week. I should have it waiting for me when I get home today.

I'll let you know how it fits.
