Value of xd40 tactical

My buddy bought a 40 3 months ago, after buying it he shot my 40 and he didnt like it he wants to get a 9. He has never shot it and he has 4 mags (12 round) He is going to put it up for sale but has no idea what to ask for it. In my area they go for 479.00 new. Any ideas on how much he should ask for it?

I just purchased an XD40 Tactical NIB from an authorized dealer with only two mags for $440 total. Since new mags are $25 each + shipping, I think I'd list it for $479 and let it go for $460 (because you know the offer will be $450). Listing it for more than they are offered locally, even with two extra mags, will probably result in very few responses. Make sure he lists it for around $20 more than he is willing to take for it. Some people just HAVE to haggle.

Its worth over 525 bucks with the 2 spare mags but if he was to put a price on it around 425 it should sell pretty quick

I understand it is new and has never been shot but most people look at it different than buying it new from a gun store

If he doesnt get any reasonable offers there are a few options- A tac light would weigh down the front end (which he could put on most other guns if he still decides to sell later) and shooting some light grain weight rounds would reduce recoil. He could also pick up a 9mm conversion barrel for around $160 and a couple of 9mm mags for ease of shooting and still have the 40 for home defense. If he doesn't think he'll ever shoot 40 again (and is going to keep the gun long term) he could sell the barrel and mags and make up most of the conversion cost. I did this with an AR barrel once and made out pretty well.

I was going to suggest the conversion barrel as well. It allows more options (range use only though).

Except, of course, the lightweight rounds in .40 are horrible choices in a defensive role...

FWIW, a LNIB XD tactical will go for (on it's own) around $425, tops.

It'd be more realistic to expect about $450 for the package.

He could try putting it up on Armslist and see if someone out there with a 9mm wanted to do a straight across trade...may be his best bet.

I paid $559 for my BNIB XD40 tactical (came with two mags, and the crappy mag loader, holster, and mag holster). Cheapest price out of my LGS. Most around here charge $599-625.

You don't even get the 12-rd mags like the rest of us with Tacticals.
