Isn't it time for the XD .380?
i was responding to the recently posted thread 'can you buy xdm pistols straight from the factory', and when i was done, i was so frustrated that i might have to buy a sig p238 for summer carry, i decided to beg SA to give us a really nice .380. American made, and better than anyone's.
i hereby promise to buy the first one off the line, Springfield Armory!
here is a copy of my response in that thread. Catch my drift? :
" I'm happy with my trigger. stock xd 40. glad you're coming to the club. a lot of good info, and some opinions. the longer i have my xd, the more i love it. not only the features of the 'round in the chamber' indicator and firing pin indicators, both tactile, like for those darkest of nights. and the 2 stage trigger, and grip safety. good features if concealed carrying IWB. i don't want to shoot any precious body parts, so i feel safe with the way SA designed this weapon. out at the range today i held a 4 inch pattern at 50 feet (gotta practice, practice, practice), but i forgot to put some one handed shooting to the test. dang! for summer c c, i'm thinking of a Sig P238 (i know, i know, too little power). it's also a single action only pistol, like the xd. since it has no dual stage trigger, tho, it's nice that it has a safety. again, for the protection of ........ anyway, i can't help you on the xdm part of your quandary, cuz i never shot one. retired and needing to draw out of the ira to shoot, buy ammo, etc., i just don't have the money to buy an xdm, too. life is tough all over. but, like hickok45, life is good! dangit, why won't SA give us a nice .380???? get someone to make it in the US and brand it. bring the jobs home, SA, impot laws won't let Croatia or Argentina or whoever bring them in. make 'em here. stamped 'made in the USA'. oh, well, one can dream. i don't want to have to buy the very expensive Sig, just the same. c'mon, SA. something nice!
nuff said? how do you want me to pay, SA? heck, i'll pay MORE for it than what the Sig costs! made in USA is worth something to me.

Oy, vey...
OK, since someone can't use the search function...
Never. Gonna. Happen.
Unimportable.
Unless SA decides to start producing handguns in the US (which they currently do NOT), a .380 XD would never meet the points system under GCA '68.

The P238s are not; they are made in the US.
The 232s are steel framed, and have enough points to meet importation regs.

SA doesn't manufacture any of the pistols they stamp their name on in the US.
(I think they assemble/fit some of their higher end 1911s in the US.)
I'm pretty sure they're not going to set up a production line just to make a 380.

No, it's not...it was made by IMBEL in Brazil.
It may have been assembled in the US, though.
Unless, of course, you're talking about a pre-1920 1911...

i know it guys. that's the point. the p238 is made in the states. why do you think i'm crying like a baby? i want an SA Xd .380. i'm ready to pay 200 more than the sig for one. i want the old SA back. can't a man dream? i bought my xd knowing it came from Croatia. hey, it's a global economy, guys and gals. is somebody at SA listening? an ALL American made Xd 380. don't get me wrong, i shot the sig p238 and am totally impressed. looks like a mini 1911. pretty gun, and it shoots like crazy, even in a 65 year old's hand(s). i think the gun toting community would fall in love with it. i want an XD or XDM (never shot an xdm) 380, a mini xd. that's all. and i'd pay big bucks from my IRA to have one! sorry, it's just the way i feel. i need a small xd, and not the compacts we have right now. Wisconsin isn't the warmest state, and it may get warmer (yes, i believe there is climate change going on!), so it's pretty hard to c c my xd 40. i'm gonna have to for now, cuz i ain't got the dough for the p238 right now.

OK...that would mean a Croatian company would have to set up shop in the US...and that's going to happen.
It's not like Springfield Armory designed the XD and found somebody to build it; HS Produkt of Croatia was already making the HS2000 (and it was imported under that name for a while), Springfield Armory thought it was a neat design, and decided to slap their logo on it (just like they slapped their logo on Brazilian 1911's).
Like I said--it'll never happen...just like a 10mm XD.
