I'm comparing my HS2000 and my XD9SC and notice something...

Man did they beef this thing up! My XD9SC has a thicker slide, and a much heavier barrel than my Gen1 HS2000. Heck, holding them in both hands they feel like they wiegh just about the same amount unloaded!

For something that was supposed to be a small carry piece I wonder why they bulked it up over the original design. The only reason I can think of is so they can use the same platform for the .40 guns.

Are the current XD9 Service models built on the larger platform too?

Maybe they felt they had to make them beefy before they could really sell in the American market. Whatever they did, sure worked didn't it?

The Sub compacts have thicker slides then the xd service models as well. They had to make the subcompact slide have a lot of mass since it lost masss from chopping off the front.

I see said the blind man.

Makes sense I guess. I guess it needs the slide mass so it doesn't open up before the chamber pressure goes down.

Well that explains why my leather holster I use for daily CC keeps my SC snug while my Service is loose in it....now I knows!
