Trigger Reset

Well, Mr. Fedex delivered my XD9 Tactical from the 'smith Friday afternoon. Ripped the box open and.. She's beautiful! New sights and a refinish. Pick it up, open the slide, look inside, let it forward, pull the trigger. Sweet! Fantastic trigger work. Rack again, pull the trigger, hold it, rack, let it forward to check the reset. No click. Pull the trigger and... nothing. Let the trigger reset again and I have to push it forward to get it to reset. Well, maybe it needs a few rounds through it. So, off to the range. No different after 100 rounds. After each shot I have to push the trigger forward about 1-2 mm to reset.

So, before I send it back to the shop are there any suggestions that I can try to fix this?

Trying doing a thorough cleaning.. If that doesn't help, send it back. It should be running 100%.. You paid for the service.

Yup. the screw that pushes the sear (i think thats what it is.) is set too far out. Dont even try to mess with it your self. You can do no real harm but itll be worth the wait.

It's not important who did the work. It's been the weekend and I'm sure the shop will make right when we have a chance to talk.

In any case, I did a thorough cleaning and no change. I was just hoping for (but not expecting) an easy fix.

I gotta tell ya though, except for the reset issue, the rest of the trigger pull is super sweet.

What is wrong with the factory reset? Help me understand why a trigger reset job is important.

Ideally when you shoot you stop forward travel of the trigger at the point of reset and the press again to fire. Some find the factory reset point too far forward. Well with trigger jobs the reset gets much shorter so the trigger travel is less. Less equals faster follow up shots. It's not that it's important. It's just a preferred feature that most want. It might actually help some people with accuracy because the gun moves less because you don't have to move the trigger that far.

Ok. Thanks. I typically pause, fully relax my arms and hands then recompose my sight picture in between each round. The trigger reset never bothered me. I guess if I progress to competitive shooting it will matter more.
