Here's what I use, in conjunction with muffs on the range. When dove hunting or shooting sporting clays, they are sufficient by themselves.

I've never tried the expensive, custom made models, so I have no basis for comparison, but noise reduction is noise reduction. These are rated for 26 db, and they're only $15.

Look for an Audiologist in your area. I have a pair of musicians plugs by Westone that I got for $200, I'm sure they're cheaper for plain old molded plugs.

There's a guy that I have met while working the GCO booth at a couple of the gun shows that makes custom ear plugs. I don't recall his name but I believe that he often works out of TriggerTime in Flowery Branch.
You might call up there and ask for his info.

I'm doing the show in Conyers on Sunday - I will look for him there and get his info.

Don't take this as me being a dick, but Google always works nice. "Custom ear plugs" search in Google gave me this result.

gahau. I am a Hearing Aid Specialist here in Austin and I work for GSM-Walker LLC. Ever hear of Walker's Game Ear?

I run a Hearing Center in Sam's Club and we offer really good custom ear plugs for $100. We also offer Walker's Game Ear products like the Game Ear HD Pro and Power Muffs.

The advantage to having an experienced specialist take your impressions and a manufacturer make your plugs is the over all fit and finish. As opposed to the DIY or on the spot plugs. You pay more. But you get a much better quality fitting mold that comes with a year warranty and a 3 month remake warranty in case they don't fit just right.

We have centers at a lot of Sam's Club locations and some Cabela's. We are adding new locations all the time.

I've emailed my district manager to see if we have a center near you just so you may explore that option if you so choose.

I am sure that AKC will agree, fit is very important to hearing protection. I have a pair of the DIY plugs and they fit great. I will agree with AKC statement about the over all fit and finish, mine look like something I made at home. I bet by the time I made 3 or 4 pair I could do a good job.

You guys wouldn't happen to have a center anywhere in south Louisiana would you? I might go this route myself.
