What are these?

This is probobly one for the re-loaders.
I had my forty Service out to play today and noticed a few of these. One was inside the breach and one was stuck to my shirt. No hic-ups from the gun. I'm sure these are off of the casing perhaps a bad case trim at the factory?
They are Mag-Tec 180gr FMC flat nose. It's the only ammo I have ever run ( several cases ) in any of my 3 or 4 40S&W pistols with never any issues at all.
They are definitely brass or copper.
Included an empty 40 for size comparison.

Wow, I can only speculate, but have no real idea. Curious though.

Probably copper from the jacket of the bullet.
sometimes when reloading, if Im in a hurry, and just set the bullet in place and dont bother trying to center it, Itll push a little drag of copper off the side of the bullet as its seated.

EEk. Wouldn't that affect the trajectory? Being out of round, and lighter on one side?

You probably would never notice if you shaved one side like that not until you start shooting long distance.

I concur with the jacket shaving, I usually get them with lead bullets, but I have seen them with jacketed bullets.

Yeah, I guess especially on heavier bullets and at short range it wouldn't be that detrimental. I worry too much sometimes.

Yeah, we're "one fat guy falling out of bed away from the big one". As long as we don't have a tornado too, we'll be managable.
