Need some major advice
I need help choosing what model SA I want to buy. I defiantly want to have a .45 acp. I cant decide between the XD, XDM, or the XD compact .45.
I really like the new look of the XDM. I like how the xdm and xd have 13 round clips. But I also want to conceal this pistol at times.
So would that make the XD compact the best choice for me? Its going to be used for home and personal protection. Maybe once in a while be brought to the range just to play around with. Does the extended clip on the compact look clean when attached to the pistol? Or does it look like its a pieced together toy?
How does the XD compact 45 shoot with the 4" barrel? Is there a huge difference between this pistol and the XDM 45 with the 4.5" barrel?
Thanks for the help and hopefully I will be owning one of these choices very soon.

Go to a range that has them all for rent, and try them out.

Welcome from Oregon and good luck on the decision. I say get the xdm since they have all the bells and whistles. Oh, It's called a Magazine not a clip. Just a heads up

The 45Compact is close to perfect, I have said it many times in many places.
No, the barrel length won't make any useful difference in performance.
As for looks that's your call.

I'm with Kaboom, get the XD 45 compact. Great gun and more versatile, extended mag with sleeve looks fine.

Yeah i like the Compact idea 2, i'd love to add the compact to my collection.
Better for conceal carry and then add the bigger mag for HD.

Welcome to the forum torquen...
Out of what you listed I'd recommend the XD45 compact as well.
I was pretty happy with mine, but I've since sold it.
But it performed flawlessly and without issue..

Not only can you put a full size mag in it ( for 13rnds ) you can put a 3 rnd extension on it for 16rnds lol.

If you have a local range that has them to rent try it first, one thing about XD/XDM's I don't like is the break in period. I bought a new XD45 compact and after 50 rounds didn't like the feel and asked Springfield if there maybe was something wrong and they said to put about 200 rounds through and it should be fine. They were right and my XD45 compact is my favorite 45, so if you buy a new one and don't like it at first wait about 250 rounds or so.

If you'll look at 1lowlife's 45 below, the first pic is without the SA Mag Extension:
The second pic, is with a Pearce Mag Extension:
The third pic, is of Kaboom's pistol (bottom pistol in the pic) with the SA Mag Extension on:
The SA Mag Extension Sleeve, gives you a full hand grip, just like the full sized 45. No, it doesn't look like a toy. It looks like a full grip, with no gap or fitment issues. It's nice and solid, once the Mag is locked in.
The Pearce Mag Extension, gives you enough room to add the pinky to the grip, to give you better control.
FYI, I have the Pearce Mag Extension on my 13-rnd Mag that came with my XD-9SC. Works like a charm, since I have big hands. Without the Extension, I was only getting three fingers fully seated on the grip, not giving me the full control that I wanted for recoil. The Pearce did the trick for me, and now I've got full control of the grip.
I just picked up a few extra from Amazon, for my SA 3-Mag Promo that's going on. If you haven't heard about their Promo, until 31 Dec, if you buy a XD or XDM, you get 3 FREE Mags and a FREE Mag Pouch from SA. Extra Mags are ALWAYS a good thing!
Since you're looking to carry this at some point, I too, would recommend the Compact 45.
Best of Luck, and please let us know which one you choose!
Cheers!
BB
