Normal? The rattle isn't present in my XD-40... Are you saying this is normal for a new mag or normal in general? If the ladder, then I am definitely concerned. The rattle was loud enough to give up someone's position... It could be heard easily when the mag was in the gun. It litterally rattles w/ every single step when holstered. I'm not sure why this wouldn't be a concern...

I have heard rattles in some of my other magazines, but did notice it in my new compact magazine the other night. Mine seems to be when I insert the 13th round, but only sometimes. I have been loading, and unloading the magazine a few times in the house, and 70% of the time when I put the 13th round in I notice the rattle. Have had it also with some of my XD(M) 19 rounds mags. Hoping it will go away after break in.

I've heard it in 5/5 XD's/XDm's between mine and my family's. If you still doubt, read the FAQ or email Springfield.

Try smacking the magazine, loaded, on your hand as if seating the cartridges, this has worked for me.

It happened to me once on one of my mags. Unloaded half the mag the loaded it full again and the rattle went away. I was wondering if it was my fault for not pushing the bullet all the way to the back of the magazine when loading

I noticed something that caused some concern when loading my short mag (13 rds). When there are 10 - 12 rounds in the mag I notice a significant rattle in it. It seems like the bullets in the middle of the stack get loose and rattles!
It reminds me of loading magazines in the military. Racking them against the helmet after loading helped seat them against the back. I do it subconciously with everything I shoot. Handgun, rifle, whatever. Try it see if it works.
