4" vs 5" XD9...wow!

I'm sure most of you out there know how nice the 4" XD9 is to shoot... but I didn't until today!

I have had my XD9 Tac for about 6 years and fired thousands of rounds through it with relentless reliability.

I have fired 4" .40s and .45s but never a 4" 9mm.

So last week I bought a Service 9mm and I shot it today, wow! It a great flat shooting pistol and a pleasure to shoot. I credit that to the dual recoil system and lower slide mass.

My 5" is a great shooter, but my 4" is my new favorite

Anyone else have a similar experience?

grats on the new xd9. The only xdm i have left is my xdm40 4.5" although I would love to give the 3.8 a try.

I just bought my recently as well and i have put quite a few rounds though it and i love it. very little recoil, so i can get sight pic and alignment quickly. 16rd mags... more rounds=more fun. only thing i do regret not opting for...that's an easy fix.... night sights.

Very similar. Except I started with an xd9 service and then purchased the Tactical a few years later.

After some time I saw no real advantage of the Tactical aside from maybe a "little" more stable sight radius. So, it went down the road in favor for an FNP9.

Buy them all! That's what I did.

I'm going the opposite way, I shoot the crap out of my 4" service 9 but the next one I pick yo will be a 5" tactical because I really like the longer sight plane.

I want to get a "Service model" 9mm XD someday. I love the way my tactical shoots. Having that extra in of barrel helps with sight aliment, and helps control muzzle jump (at least for me it does). I can get back on target quicker with my tactical, then my sigma.

I had a Sigma for a short time... The trigger was a deal killer for me. I think the 4" has less muzzle flip than the 5". The 4" slide has less moving mass, that is the only logical reason I can account for that. The dual recoil spring may also help out.
