Stained Slide on Bi Tone XDm 3.8
I purchased my Bi Tone XDm9 3.8 new, last Feb. at a show in Dallas. At the time i bought it I didn't see any stains on the slide. Shortly thereafter we moved so the XDm was packed away for a couple of months. Later when I was going to shoot it for the first time and started to clean and lube it I noticed the stains. I called Springfield and they were very helpful and quick to help, and told me to send it to them and they would bead blast it for me. Has anyone else had any issues with their stainless slides from Springfield. I have owned at least 10 different stainless handguns since 1975 including a stainless Springfield 1911 and have never had one do this.Or for that matter, stain at all. Does any one have a suggestions? I tried several different cleaners with no success, but I don't want to take a chance on damaging it.
Thanks, Steve

Did you oil it extra good before storing it?

Yup. I'd do what SA sugested and send it to them. They'll handle it better than most and do it to your satisfaction in the name of good custmer service. And probably at no charge.

No, I did wipe it down with a Kleen Bore silicone cloth, just like always on all my guns. that's why I ask if anyone else had any issues.I have never seen SS weapon do anything like this. The XDm was not left outdoors, it was in my bedroom in the case, with central air conditioning in the house. I will probably pack it up and send it to Springfield for repair.I guess I should have gotten the Black finish, but I got the Bi tone to avoid problems like this( and I like the looks ). It is not pitted or rough to touch it just won't come clean. Is there some kind of coating on the slide? Springfield is not going to charge me for fixing it.
Thanks

We get them in like that from time to time and we blast them with a polishing media to make them look right again.

That's what I was going to recommend. No sense paying shipping for a fix that costs a few bucks (or less if you have fine/x-tra fine steel wool laying around).

Curious why this seems to happen with the SS slides on the XDm's......I dont recall hearing about it on the XD's as much. This seems to happen a LOT on the M's though? The case seems to be a common factor - so maybe that is the culprit?

FWIW We saw it on XD's well before seeing it on XDm's. Stainless steel does rust under the right conditions, just not as badly as standard carbon steel.
