LOL! I can't believe you're comapring a 1911 to a cell phone from the 80's.
Yea the 1911 has been around 100 years. But it's just one of those things that got made right the first time. Same goes for the AK 47. Which has been around over half a century. But yet, if I was going to be sent to another planet and was given a choice on what rifle to take with me. I'm taking an AK!
I think there is a reason so many shooters still prefer a 1911 to other 45s. Because it's a fine weapon. I would like to own one. I've also tossed around the idea of an XD 45. But for me it's just too much to stock up on another caliber. So I stick with my trusty XD9 Service and SC. I'm keeping it consolidated and simple.

I had to do it. Right now I am looking into building my own 1911. I pretty well hate all the pseudo 1911s thrown together that pretty much are junk being sold for more than 1K. Makes me puke to think people fall for the marketing hype some companies do. Then have shotty CS when you have a real issue. I can build a non MIM real 1911 from parts I can buy much cheaper than these molded parts 1911s being sold today.
Also if I may, get the XD45. It is the best rack grade ACP period being made today. I am a diehard Glock fan and I hate the G21 and G21SF. The 9mm can be your high volume shooters and the 45 can be your serious gun.
You might not anytime soon, but you will someday......

Geez... all the .40 haters! I have 6 XD/XDm's... 5 of them are .40's. I don't know where some of the responders are getting their facts, but:
1) In Ballistic gel tests the 40 will penetrate as deeply, or more so than bullets of other self defense calibers.
2) I can load 180grn bullets in the 40 to over 1100fps with room to spare, should I desire to, and close to 1200fps if I want to push it. I don't think the .45 can do that with their 185grn equivalent.
3) .40 once fired cases are cheap, readily available, and can be reloaded at least ten times if you don't push for maximum velocity on each reload.
4) Other .40 components are also less expensive than that for a .45, and except for bullets will cost you about the same to reload with as a 9mm. You will spend about 2 cents a round more for .40 bullets than 9mm at certain loadings using the heavier bullet for each respective caliber.
5) More police and federal agencies use the .40 than any other round. It has proven its effectiveness not only in the laboratory, but in actual encounters.
I have nothing against a 9mm, nor a 45, and I own several of both. I have built many and still own 2 45ACP pistols on the 1911 platform, and another 1911 that has a 9mm, 38 Super, and 9X23 barrels. My other 9mm is an XD Service model that has fired many thousands of rounds without problems. I would not feel deprived if I was forced to carry it. However, I DO carry mostly my XD40 Service which has several alterations and which I trust implicitly to do the job for which it was created.
I like .40's!

Keep your 9mm, go shoot a 40SC before you buy, you may not like the recoil. I have 3- 40s and like them but prefer the larger grip guns in 40. And yes one is a XD40sc it is slower to get on target for the second shot but is very accurate. The 9 or the 45 are good calibers also and I would not feel unprotected with any of them.

I plan to keep my 9s and get a 45. I want 1911, just can't make up my my mind which one - so many beauties A suggestion for you would be XD45 if you want to stay with all XDs.

Actually, the .40s&w was developed because the 10mm that was originally made for FBI was deemed too snappy of a round for the agents,...thus they went with the .40s&w because it was faster than a 9mm and packed a bigger punch.
