Not really sure what some of you expect. The surface scuffing on the barrel and other parts occurs because there is a nice snug fit between two moving metal surfaces. This is normal. They will occur even if the pistol is never fired but you just racked the slide by hand several times. What you see is the surface coloration only, the melonite process that hardens and protects the metal is penetrated quite deep into the material and is not effected by having or not having a top coat color. The black top finish is not the Melonite process.
Check the posts where owners have polished off all the top coloration for a mirror metallic shine - without any degradation of the melonite or the protection it affords.

Normal wear if that is what you want to call it. I polished my entire barrel to a chrome like finish. Problem if it is indeed a prolem is now solved.

I hate the way this looks so I spray my barrel with high heat barbecue paint after every range trip. I make sure to get it all down the barrel too on the rifling cuz I really want the inside to match the outide.
