This is Springfield's official stance on the subject and I was also told this by a few other sources. However, the pins
have broken during high-round count tests in pistols that were not extensively dry-fired. They can also "walk" out of the hole during extensive firing. It's reportedly rare but it's probably worth fixing.
In the verbal report I was given by one source, he stated that the broken pin caused the pistol to stop firing. He stated that the other 4 XD's that were tested suffered no such breakages or stoppages and that they worked perfectly throughout the test.
