Has anyone ever used tracer rounds for fun? Just wondering if they hurt the barrel or action or anything like that. Just thought that it might be fun to shoot outside sometime, maybe its illegal i dont know??

They were selling some in a store in Rapid City, SD, but they're illegal in Utah where I live, plus I don't think the TSA would've thought much nice about me bringing them on the airplane. So, they stayed on the shelf. Dang, they look like fun!

They can start fires in dry woods, brush or grass, so you have to be careful about that. Generally not permitted for hunting (though why anyone would want to use them for hunting, I don't know). Probably not a good idea for self defense, either Forbidden in some states, and at many ranges. Apparently not against Federal law to purchase, however, since they are sold in so many venues.

I can atest to that. When I went through basic back in '95 we was qualifiing on the M-16 and there were tracers mixed in with the practice ammo. It was August in San Antonio so the brush was so dry it started a fire. It burned about 100 or so acres before we beat it out with rakes and shovels.
