first, what would be the reason for this? second, if the striker is cocked, the only way to de-cock it is to pull the trigger with the correct grip to ensure all the safetys are disengaged.

If there is a round in the chamber, IT WILL FIRE! If there is no ammo in the gun at all, and you simply want to store it de-cocked, pull the trigger.

TRIPLE CHECK TO ENSURE IT IS UNLOADED!!!!

Even if you could somehow manage to decock, with a round in the cylinder, How would you cock it to fire the round? Rack it, ejects the round. May as well carry unloaded.

Actually, if there is a round in the camber and it was for some reason decocked, say with a "snap cap" in it...or if you had a round that didnt fire and you wanted to try it again...you only have to pull the slide back about an 1/8 inch or so to cock it. You do not have to pull the slide all the way back.

Yup, DJ is right, move the slide a bit and it cocks. But I still don't know a way to decock, just depend on the safeties built into the pistol, and the one in your head.

Nope it's fine.

Won't hurt is a bit but if you store your XD with that unloaded chamber indicator flag it came with installed it essentually stores the striker uncocked since the slide is not fully forward and thus the striker is not cocked.

The general consensus here is that dry-firing will not hurt the XD.
