The GAP is dead.

For further evidence of the demise of the XD45GAP, Gunbroker has had 9 recent auctions for a GAP with a starting bid of only $399. 8 of those went unsold, with 7 getting no bids at all.

OTOH there have been 15 listings for the ACP and 8 of those sold for between $465 and $530.

RIP GAP. You were a pretender to the throne, but you have been vanquished by the timeless ACP.

Hopefully this is a lesson to gun makers that there needs to be a balance between new materials, new technologies and new ideas. When they contemplate bringing something to market they need to be solving a problem. One that is a huge problem and one worth solving. One that will catch on and make that company money. The 45GAP solves such a niche issue. One that the designers of the XD solved for the most part using an existing widely used caliber.

Kind of a bummer for the ones that bought XD's in 45GAP. It will probably become the least valuable of the line.

To quote a well known firearms authority.

But have you shot one. Really a lot of fun. I own a XD-45LE and it fits my hand better than any 45 ACP (not tiny but small hands). I don't really care what any one would pay for it, and the lower the price the better for me I'll own 10 of em.

Spoken like a true XD45GAP owner.

But have you held the acp version... I would think not or your post would be changed.

I have several of each and believe his comment is right on the mark.
GunBroker is not an indication of is/is not going to be the future of any gun. There are a bunch of 9s & 40s that aren't selling either. The price, I paid $375 & $420 for my GAPs so thats certainly not an indicator.
Just another GAP vs ACP thread making its monthly appearance!!

If you look at the latest annual Glock Magazine issue you can see that Glock is really pushing the GAP round. They have articles about it and Gunny with his personal Glock 37 pushing the round. Personally I've been contemplating the a GAP pistol but haven't pulled that trigger yet simply due to ammo availability and price. If you look at the ballistics of the GAP round you can come to the conclusion that the round is just as effective as a 45 ACP yet more practical. It's a new round and like anything new there are skeptics and a chance that it won't take off, and if you read the glocktalk forums you can see the same skepticism about the longevity of the GAP. There are police forces that have adopted the round so I don't think it's about to just fade away. Like the .40 was when it was introduced; it just takes a while to take off.
