Empty magazines won't drop when released
I have 6 factory SA magazines for my XD 40.
I was practicing magazine changes tonight, and with four of them, when I press the mag release, they drop straight out when empty.
But with two of them, they release and drop down about 1", but then get stuck--they won't drop out by gravity alone. I either have to pull them out, tap down on the baseplate with the next mag, or maybe shake the gun. They aren't tight, but they won't slide out on their own, which makes for a comical mag change routine.
As far as I can tell, they are slightly wider in the 1/4" area underneath the bend in the lips on each side, near the top of the mag. I can see some slight wear marks in that area, and it looks like they are a little too wide to release smoothly.
Has anyone else experienced this? Did you try and fix it? (I'm thinking maybe sand the sides down?) Or did you call SA to see if they will replace them? Or did you just live with it and make them your beater range mags?
Not a big deal, but it would be nice if they all dropped out smoothly.
UPDATE: After thinking about it, I suppose it could be a combination of the magazine and some tolerances of the magwell in my frame, with the two combining to cause them to stick. But I think I'd rather try and fix the mag then change the mag well.

I was always taught to quickly cant the gun 45* to the left side (for us righties) while relasing the magazine, which usually helps eject it from the mag well. My Xd mags usually slid out without problems, but my Berretta mags take this technique to work well.
Ive also seen this problem when people use a different caliber magazine on their handgun, although not on the XD.

I think it's better to practice pulling out the mags with your weak hand while reloading anyway to save the hassle. Maybe someone who shoots matches can chime in

Call Springfield. They've replaced a few of them for me in the past.

Check the lips for any deformity. Having recently taken course that required dropping the mags (loaded and unloaded) I can tell you that any small deformity will affect them.

Unless really mashed or a sharp dent, the magazines can normally be carefully pressed back into correct dimensions. The double stack rounds tend to spread the case slightly. I have used a wood block, cut to size and shoved up from the bottom (remove base plate) to press out inward dents. With the mag corners supported inside with a properly sized block, you can press or tap out external bulges. Again I use a wood block for the straight lines and to evenly distribute pressure so there are no inward dents from a mallet. Check the bend at the lips of the mag after any side adjustments.

The early .45 mags have a tendency to bulge slightly in the back after a number of rounds so you may have that issue. SA will replace them as dejadoo stated. I have about a dozen mags and a couple of taps with a rubber mallet while laying them on a flat surface corrects mine. Just too lazy to send them back to SA.

I've noticed the same thing with all 3 of my mags. I have gotten into the habit of dragging out the empty mag with my left hand as I reach for the next full mag in the pouch. I have 5 new mags on order from SA that I hope to be testing shortly.

Hey guys try holding the mag release button down until the mag is clear of the gun. I had the same problem and discovered that it was the mag release applying pressure to the mags holding them in the gun. If you hold the button down they should drop right out.

Thanks, I may try that next week when I head over to my brother's place--he's got all of the woodworking tools, spare blocks, and mallet.
