I'm thinking they may use a weaker spring due to a slower slide speed, and if you went to a nonported, the slide speed would be possibly higher than you may want or would not function right. Don you can chime in here anytime. Please!! I'm out of my element. Help Mr. Wizard I want to go home now!!

When ordering springs, there is no difference between vented and non vented barrels. I would assume they all use the same 18# spring.

So how is the recoil with the 22lb. spring? Ever fired it with the 18 lb. spring? If you have, how do they compare?

I've only usewd it with the 22# spring because I switch off with the 40 barrel but I've run about 3000 rounds(40 and 9mm) through it since I put it in, so it's probably equal to an 18# by now

It definitely affects the recoil with the 40 and makes the recoil almost non existant with the 9mm....good luck if you decide to get it. Good cheap fun with the 9mm...

sorry it took so long to reply

Exactly what I wanted to hear, I have a new rod with a 22# spring in my weapon now. Just waiting for the required funding, for the barrel. But I was hoping for little recoil (greatly reduced) from the 9mm round.

I have 2 XD40 service models and one EFK 9mm conversion barrel. One of my XD's has a CC trigger job, DGR, and a 22# spring in it, roughly 2000 .40 rounds through it. Using the 9mm barrel on that XD works flawlessly. So well that I use it regularly in IDPA without any problems whatsoever. I have over 1000 rounds of 9mm through it already. The other XD only has about 750 rounds total through it, and does not like it quite as much. It fits much tighter in the slide, around the chamber. It could be just a break in type issue, the gun might just need to be losened up a little. Also, the 9mm barrel is more accurate than the .40 barrel.

With the 9mm and the 22# spring, this thing shoots like a kitten. Has the recoil of a .22 now. I absolutely love it. Offhand shots are far more accurate for me now, especially with quick follow ups.

Hell, I trust it so much that right now I have it in my nightstand loaded as a 9mm with hollow points cause I shoot it better than the .40, and I have 17 rounds instead of 12. I trust my life to it. But only after it proved it's self.

+1 on the accuracy...I shoot the 9mm EFK better than the 40 also and am also inclined to trust it more
