Talked to custom shop about Melonite

This is probably common knowledge already, but I'll tell you all anyway. I am in the market for an XD-9 and will be ordering it brand new. As I have stated in another thread... I don't like buying from the "everyone has handled it" showcase. I called the custom shop to see if there was any way when ordering to request an XD-9 with the Melonite treatment / finish.

The women that answered the phone told me that "right now" the only XD pistol available in Melonite is the XD-45. She added that Springfield "cannot duplicate that process in the states."

She did not say that all XDs will eventually get the Melonite. However, the fact that she prefaced her earlier statement with "right now" leads me to believe that, at some time, all XDs will have the Melonite. I don't think I can wait for that "some time". I want my XD-9 now! I am not going to carry it daily, so I guess the "regular" finish will be fine.

I was told the same thing basically..(by SA).. after reading all the posts about rust..I really think its hit or miss with the gun you get and its finish. Seems some people take care of them like all their other guns...cleaning etc..and get rust...others seem to be more lacks in their cleaning and still do not have problems. I always take proper care of my mine so if I ever get a rust issue...either off to SA or james for duracoating.. I wouldnt worry too much about not getting the melonite finish..so far mine is holding up well...
