+1 on the .40 having a more "snappy" recoil and the .45 having more of a "push" recoil. My wife, on her first handgun outing even noticed this. She started the day with .22 Beretta Neos, moved on to an XD-9mm, then to an XD-.40, and finally ended up shooting my XD-.45. Of all of them, she liked my .45 the most except that the grip was a little large for her hands. We ended up buying her an M&P .45 which fits her hand perfectly with the smallest backstrap. Her main reason for liking the .45? The "push" type of recoil!

I only prefer the .40 over the .45 due to higher capacity and lower ammo costs. It was not love at first shot. +1 on lots on practice with the .40 to become proficient.

I just bought a XD40 service on Saturday and went and put 100 rounds through it on sunday, It seems to be alot more accurate and manageable than the big heavy PT99 I used to have.

I'm sold on .40 S&W

i have a 40 xd sm & labor day weekend my friend brought is 45 xd sm & we shot several rounds. as soon as i picked up his gun I put 10 rounds w/in a half dollar from 7 yards. i don't know that i have ever done that w/mine. after shooting for several minutes I was par for the course & not grouping that tight from either gun.
the next day i was looking for a .45 as well-found a gun, just can't find the $ !

All of the shots seem to be low left, but slightly random too. If I hold it steady, the 2nd shot is low left but maybe 2 or 3 bullet lengths from where the first round hit.

I started with the .40 and now have a .45. I truly can't tell much difference in how they recoil. I shoot the .40 better but I like the .45 better. I am assuming that there is enough of a difference to matter in how we are shooting the 2nd caliber, but maybe not enough for us to notice what to change?
