Different Sight styles?

What other fixed sight styles are there? So there are standard sites with no dots, some with dots, some with light activated glowing dots and some with radioactive glowing dots.

I've seen the triangle sites that seem to have gone under (Suresight?).

I've seen the lollipop sights (XS Sight Systems, I kind of like the idea)

Is there anything else?

I'm thinking that a standard set of sights with a white cross would be good. It would ensure both horizontal and vertical alignment.

I'm thinking about getting some tritium sites. There's a little local range that's dark and often warm and humid inside. The last time I was there, my eye protection stayed sort of fogged up the whole time I was there. Between the foggy safety glasses and the dark, it was a little hard to get a clear view of the sights. I guess that actually in some ways "enhances" my training. If I can shoot in the dark with fogged up glasses....

Anyway, just curious, thanks all.

When I bought my XD 40 last week, the guy said that he has never seen, sold, or been able to order any XD that had the tritium sights, or anything other than the basic sights. He isn't sure if it is a California thing, or that they are just rare.

He then said that he has spoken to customers that have purchased them as aftermarket accessories, but he and the customers have been unable to find anyone who can properly install them--something about press configuration and angles or something that didn't make any sense to me.

Finally, he said something about SA not being willing to install different sights. Which really puzzles me.

It seemed extremely strange, so I don't know if it is BS or not, but if you are looking to replace your sights, might want to ask around and find someone that has done it before you bother buying them.

Looks like someone has manufactured a home made tool, but doesn't look like something I would want to use.

And a discussion of sight replacement:

Interestingly enough, I just put new night sights on my G21 today.

The shop where I went was out of Trijicons for a G21, also out of Mepros...so I had the choice of TFO's or Big Dots; I went with Big Dots.

I think I like this style; I'm going to be running my pistol fairly hard this weekend, so I'll have a pretty darn good idea if I like them or not...

A lot of people here have different sights on their XD's; as I have been told by a couple of shops, though, their sights are a bit of a pain to get out; a hydraulic press was once referred to. Don't know, as I no longer own a XD...but I would think a reputable gunsmith would have the means to replace them.

BTW--all my social/carry pistols have night sights; I think they are awful darn important.

On Springfield's website under custom worksheet for XD, you will find a whole slew of custom options that they do in-house. (including several types of sights with installation) That said, there are some forum sponsors right here that are very reputable.

My local gun store changed out my sight, and a XD sight tool for free. I watched him do it, it wasn't easy.

I like my meprolights.

I bought mine at XD-HS2000.com

Meprolight Night Sight - xd-hs2000

Got free installation with the purchase, obviously the only downside of doing that online is that you have to ship the slide off.

I put meprolights on my XD-40 myself. I had took it to an older gentleman near me that owns a hardware store & does gunsmithing/ sells guns & ammo. He couldn't get the original sights out with his pusher & was worried about breaking it. Then was hesitant about cutting the factory sights so after a week I lost patience & went & got it back. It took about 3-4 hours for me to get the factory sights out. I finally managed to beat out the rear sight with a 2 pound hammer & a brass punch. The front sight was just wadding up & not moving so I cut it out which took a long time because I was trying to make sure I didn't damage the slide. I would say that it is worth some extra time & expense to get someone else to do it for you. BTW I really like my Meprolights.
