Let's see, new magazine, $30, medical expenses to reattach parts shot off, $something above 100,000 AFTER insurance... I think I'll take the new mag... Essentially, a magazine is worthless in a shootout if it's empty anyway.

tacˇtiˇcal Pronunciation:\ˈtak-ti-kəl\ Function: adjective Date:15701 : of or relating to combat tactics: as a (1) : of or occurring at the battlefront <a tactical defense> <a tactical first strike> (2) : using or being weapons or forces employed at the battlefront < tactical missiles> b of an air force : of, relating to, or designed for air attack in close support of friendly ground forces 2 a : of or relating to tactics: as (1) : of or relating to small-scale actions serving a larger purpose (2) : made or carried out with only a limited or immediate end in view b : adroit in planning or maneuvering to accomplish a purpose
What I like about shooting USPSA is that you don't have to retain the mag if you reload prematurely. In IDPA if there is one round left, and that round is in the chamber, the mag is still not considered empty. So you have to retain that mag. IMO, that is stupid. I will reload and just drop the mag. Normally shooting till empty. But when I started to get more competitive in USPSA I would reload before I needed too while running between boxes, targets, etc.

No arguement from me on the point; I figure if I'm ever in so deep that I need to reload, I am NOT going to be worrying about pocketing the furshlugginer partial mag; I'll just let gravity do it's thing.
I was simply pointing out that, in common usage (at least, in my experience) a tactical reload involves retaining the magazine.

Gotcha. Even before I had my pistol, back when I was 17 or 18 I straight out laughed when I read an article on how to do it. Capture with pinky and ring finger insert new magazine with thumb and pointer finger. I was like really? Really? Hahaha. Dope.
