Lubrication areas?
Well I just picked up my XD .40 and was flipping through the manual and didn't really see too much on specific areas to lube. I know in the manual for my dads S&W Sigma it shows exactly where you should lube. I know to lube the rails and all but I was wondering if anything else needs it: trigger mech, etc.
Thanks for the help!
Oh, and nice site! This is my first pistol and it looks like there is some good info on here that will definitely help!

Yes on the rails, along with some on the barrel, other than that a light wipe down on the outside of the pistol is what I do, just don't do what I did when I first purchased mine and lube the little hole on top of the slide behind the chamber, that would be your striker retainer pin. Which you want to keep dry all the time.

striker area gets wet its more prone to collecting garbage and gumming up the striker...
Do a search on xd cleaning or oiling... you'll bring back alot of threads... Most people OVER oil their XD's... its not near as important as you think when you first get your xd... don't lose any sleep over it...

Think of lube like Brylcreme..a little dab will do ya'. There needs to be enough lubrication to prevent excessive or premature wear but not too much as to act as an attractant to dirt, grime or dust bunnies. a good ting to remember is if it is shiny, it gets lubed...lightly at that.
For the slides on my pistols, I typically use a TINY dot of Tetra gun grease as it has more viscosity to stay put without having to use so much it gums up or attracts debris.

I just take a big paint brush and a bucket of Crisco to my pistols and call it a day.

For the area around the striker retainer pin I use gun scrubber to get all the gun powder out. Once I do that, I then blow it out with canned air to make sure it is completely dry.

Shoot a couple hundred rounds through it. Field strip it and clean well. Look for shiny "wear points" and use a LITTLE DAB of gun grease on those spots. Too much oil or grease is worse than too little.
