Work question
Hello everyone, I'm about to purchase my first handgun... a Springfield XD9sc. It's on reserve at the local store, and I'm about to "pull the trigger" tomorrow. A unique situation has cropped up, though. My new job involves opening a store with my wife; she opens a coffee shop that's located in the same building as the office that I work at. They're owned by the same parent company. My employer knows that I'm looking into buying a handgun, and has indicated that he would want me to bring it in early (4-5 AM) for the hours where my wife and I are the only two there(until 7 AM). This possibility brings up two questions:
1) Is anyone aware of any legal implications of carrying a firearm at work when its authorized by the owner? I'm assuming a CCW license would be par for the course. What other considerations are there?
2) As far as carrying a gun into work (and other CCW), what would you all think of a XD9sc vs. an XD9M? I'm considering the latter despite the fact that I'll pay another $140 here in Ohio...
Thanks in advance.

Hmm if the employer says it's ok I don't see a problem with it, I would make sure that there is written proof though that states that he is ok with just to cover your bases

Welcome to the site.
With the permission of the owner in the building where you work, you will be fine carrying there... but it's still a good idea to get your carry permit. You'd be much better of with it, in case you had to shoot a bad guy, so yes, it would be par for the course. Plus, most other places you carry, you will be legal there as well.
I would consider the xdsc 9mm over the xdm 9mm. The sc 9 will be easier to carry, more concealable, and as accurate as the xdm.

Depending on what your build is, I'd strongly consider the XDm9---I have no problems CCing my XD9 svc, although it is slightly smaller than the M. If you're worried about the concealment aspect, get the SC9, you may need a pinky extension, but if you're gonna do that, go on a keep the 16rd magazine in it. Good luck on your purchase though. You can't go wrong with either weapon.

Double check your state law, But Here in AZ if you have been authorized by your employer to carry there is no problem. I would get that in writing .
1.) Liability is the major concern and the employer takes on that liability by authorizing you to carry.
2.) XD9sc would be my choice for daily CC, The XDm while it may be possible to conceal it will not be as easy/comfortable as the sc. The XDm is an awesome sidearm but a little large to make it your daily CC. Kinda like trying to conceal a 92fs it can be done but it is not comfortable The SC is just as capable adn much much easier to carry discretley.
Good luck, sounds like your boss is a smart man..

Get your permit and get a written note from him he authorizes it that way he can't come back and fire you for it because someone else complained.

IMO, there's a big difference between the Pearce Grip Extensions and the full size mag. Try both and see what works best for you.

If the owner states you can bring go ahead. But remember it's not your business and you cannot use it to protect the building or its property. Unless that is your assigned job as a security officer or something of that sort. Otherwise you can protect yourself and third parties if they are in immediate danger of life.

Owner of a company is not the same as owner of the building/property. Cover your bases/arse.

This is the case in CT, but different laws apply elsewhere. In TX you can shoot a guy robbing your neighbor and it's ok. Don't rule out an XD9 service. It will cost less than the XDm, and I don't think the extra rounds in the m will be an issue. Don't forget a good holster.

he is incrontrole of the property, just like if you rent a house, the landlord has to have some respect for your privacy, even though it is his house.
