7 out of 10 XD's break under intense use?

There's a thread going on over at DefensiveCarry.com where a member asked for information on reliability of the XD and XDm.

One of the other 'senior' members responded with this (post #8 )

Quote:
It depends on your planned use. If you plan on attending some training and shooting a lot, the XD is a poor choice. It will fail, I promise. If you plan on being an occasional recreation type of shooter, the XD will serve you well. Its more about what you want out of the gun than what the gun is capable of.
And when challenged, he responded with this: (post #15)

The guy asked for opinions, and I gave him mine. Its as simple as that. I could have gave him a fluff answer like "It comes in a swell box with a crappy holster, and some catchy "Tactical" name made up by some marketing guy" Or it "feels good in my hand", but I chose to give him my honest opinion. So shoot me.

I dont care if anybody buys one or not, but I dont like it being marketed as a premium gun when its not. Of the popular guns, it has just as high failure rate as the middle shelf guns in my classes and at the shooting school I work at. They just aint all that.
And then this (post #34)

Yes. Its no so much a stopage problem its one of breakage. I've seen triggers disconnect and go dead, but there have been a lot of undiagnosed breakages too. We dont stop class to disect and figure out the problem. Honestly, I dont care what the probelm is because it doesnt matter... the gun is broke and wont work in a gun fight. The shooter either uses a back up, borrows another or goes home.

In the weekend long class I do on a semi regular basis, if we have 10 XD's 7 will not complete the weekend. They seem to do OK with casual use though. Thats why I feel the XD's are junk. Maybe they have corrected some issues with the M, I dont know... but it seems like the M is just the same gun with some cosmetic dressing.
I told him in so many words that I thought he was talking c**p otherwise the XDTalk board would be absolutely FULL of failure reports. What do you guys make of this?

He must be a firearm forum commando with an agenda... not worth worrying about.

We'd have heard something here about 70% of XD's breaking... especially from the 5-10K plus guys...

Not to mention he's not an XD-user. Considering some of the absolute B/S I hear at gun stores, I prefer actual fact of innuendo.

It's hard to say what he's seeing in his class but you know there are plenty of those guys out there that if it's not the same gun as their shooting it's junk! You know what I mean.

I would ask what do you call intense use? I have past 25k rounds in the last 12 months without a single stoppage, in all conditions except snow XD works fine for me.

You know, I did a lot of research, found this forum, and then bought an XD(M). Have a XD Subcompact on order. I read through this forum frequently, still in that fired up stage.

However, when I go to other forums, I am somewhat stunned that the XD/XD(M) are not held in the same regard that we hold them here. Not sure if based on fact or agenda, but around here, you get a lot of reinforcement thinking very highly of them, but other folks definitely do not seem to get that vibe.

Don't get me wrong, I love mine, but the love is not universal.

I'd like to see documentation of such results. I'm sure he (or nobody else) would be able to supply them. I doubt they even go to classes.

I've talked to plenty of locals who have been to or teach classes. No one's saying the XD series is hot ****, but they're not experiencing these sort of results, either.

obviously horse S. seems like one of the folks who knows everything about everything and just loves talking about it. ive ran into them at gun stores places that sell ammo. they like to hear themselves talk, i just play it off and get away.

But he is right though, the XD is junk. thats why i bought 2 and am looking for another one and have no prob recommending them. And unlike other gun fans and like most here, i dont think the XD is the best thing thats ever happened, i dont think glock is crap, i just like the XD and its a very good gun, fits me size wise and price wise.
