Springfield's custom shop or DIY
Been tossing the idea around for a bit. Should I order my XD production package or Do It Myself? How difficult can the addition of a new trigger, sights or even an extended mag release be? I might send it out for a match barrel installation. Is it worth the 6 month wait from Springfield and $600 plus dollars for a barrel, mag release and sights. I priced out the parts to about $350. Is it easy work? But on the other hand I won't have the custom logo on my pistol . What are your thoughts?

I had the same thoughts on mine xd9. I asked a shooter for over twenty years he said leave it alone, so after a season of idpa. The trigger loosen up a little, reset I dont like but I know where it is, my sights I did myself. I dont think the barrel upgrade you would notice. The other thing is what and why the changes or just personal reasons. If you shoot it for a while you know what changes you want. Hope this helps Good luck.

Been shooting an XD for about 1.5 years. Got about 15,000 rounds logged with my two XDs. Just thought I would treat myself with the next one and possibly upgrade the ones I have.

If I didn't want to do the work myself, I would go with Springer Precision over the Custom Shop. Scott usually turns things around much quicker. If you aren't in any hurry, the Custom Shop is a good option though.

I'd pick Springer over the custom shop too, but first I'd put the Powder River trigger in it.

i guess i am old school. any modifications to a firearm should be done by a qualified gunsmith. Even though I have been shooting for over 40 years, I do not feel qualified to change out a tigger mechanism.

I felt the same way (though I haven't been shooting quite as long as you). But after watching some disassembly videos I gave it a whirl - if you can change a tire you can easily swap out the trigger in an XD within 3 minutes.
Okay, maybe 30 minutes the first time.

Have you ever changed the oil in your car? If so, then you're qualified to work on your gun.
